Mike and Jarl had been playing together for ages, but, in the mid-nineties they were inspired to put a band together. After recording a few tapes, and a CD, Black Guitar Karma, with a borrowed bass player, they found a bass/violin player, Shawn, who was available on a more permanent basis. Having Shawn allowed them to do local concerts, and a favorite hangout became the Cafe Euphrates (Mediterranean restaurant in downtown Denver that had live music on weekends.)
