Wall - Tamping the Gravel Base
Golden, Colorado: July 31, 2005

Before the first course of blocks could be laid, we needed a gravel base in the ditch. We filled it a couple of inches and then tamped it using a gas-powered plate compactor. This became an iterative process as we tried to get the base level across the yard. In the last set of pictures, you can see where Mike placed conduits that will run under the wall. These conduits will carry electrical power to the wall lights. (which means they also give a good idea of how high the wall will be)

Here is a picture of Mike building a ramp, so we can easily roll things from the garage to the patio.
