A new resident has moved into the swallow nest above our front door - a "Say's Phoebe" bird!
At first, I was worried that the bird had missed some sort of migration, but it turns out that they
winter in the Denver area just fine. They are a cold-tolerant species that has lived in North America for
at least 400,000 years. They are said to be people tolerant - I refer to her(?) as "people tolerant" since she
seems to give some serious side eye whenever it has been determined that I am disturbing the peace. Say's Phoebe roost
alone and the males and females look almost identical.
