enjoyed the State of the Union address. It was all so reasonable. I just couldn't shake how listening to Rep Ryan with the Republican
response was like listening to the enclave radio (Fallout 3, one of my favorite games to listen to Mike play).

ah, geez....I was happy yesterday about the first backyard campfire of the season. been so dry - I suppose the first widlfire of the season shouldn't be a surprise.
This is a couple of miles from our house but shouldn't be a threat. watched helicopters drop water on it while on the phone with my bro

I love crows - they are and always have been my favorite bird. Normally, the creatures in our yard are terrified of them...but, not today. Our squirrel is way too hungry after all that sub-zero weather.

Tim - since you asked, I took a couple of pics of the new basement work-out area. It's still a work in progress - - no TV hookup yet. But it has Xbox, music, can play DVDs. :>)

getting ready for Easter - - got the ham from Gwenn and Terry in the fridge, muffins are baked, 75 easter eggs plus 1 rabbit are ready for the hunt tomorrow, and the Easter Bunny even gave Chloe an egg that rattles, which she likes to push around.

Each spring, Mike talks about digging up the metal trim by the oak tree. He had decided it was there based on an erosion shape in the grass. "yes, dear." "Don't you see the shape right there? " "no" and so forth. As I was coming home from getting rid of a load of dirt, I saw a hole in the yard. "I'll be damned," I thought, and loaded it up so I could bring it to cleanup day tomorrow.

no day of yardwork would be complete without deer....this is a new friend who was in our yard. It was hard to take the picture, what with me laughing about the cat growling loudly at the deer. She's pretty tough from between my feet and safely behind a glass door. :>)

ta-da! just kidding. I threw the flagstones down over the sand untl the pavers are here next weekend (all 600 of them :>o ) Then, I will use the flagstones for highlights among the travertine. 2.03 tons of concrete sand atop the gravel. Mike and I finished with the gravel (including tamping) yesterday. I finished with the sand today, and the blue truck is ready to go home - until next year. This is only half of the north patio project.

Here's a picture of Mike with the trash-fueled tuk tuk for the Asia tropics exhibit. The Colorado School of Mines Chemistry dept has been collaborating with the zoo to develop the gasification system for the tuk tuk. Yes,it literally runs on trash. The same sort of system will be employed to heat the pools ad create electricity for the Asian tropics exhibit.
