New Bissell electric mop gets an A-. Perfect for a quick clean. Got all the grime up easily in the first pass, dries quickly. High pitched noise is a little maddening. Poor edge and corner performance will mean I still need to do the manual mop from time to time. Overall, quite happy with it! 🙂

Merry Christmas to Ziggy! Here she is arriving for stocking time, discovering there are tasty things inside, some toys....and seemingly back from the dead, her favorite puff! I found an exact duplicate of the first toy I had ever gotten her....the one she loved so much that it ended up in tatters. Guard the puff. Love the puff. Love the puff so much. 😸💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

Schlep Schlep - fancy chicken health check...he survived storage and is in the tree staging area

For everyone else, some of you may remember I am in Christmas decoration parole and have to do annual check-ins to prove the chicken didn't have "an accident". Many years ago, the family used to do an ornament exchange for Christmas Eve. I drew a box from Rob, containing a fancy chicken. I was um... nonplussed. But no one would trade with me, so it became mine. After we got home, I put it on our tree, and somewhere in the timeline, the fancy chicken suffered an accident through which it became decapitated. An honest accident. That's my story and has always been my story. Rob said the good news was that the store still has more. So, the replacement arrived with an annual health check requirement, including that he be placed in a visible part of the tree so the health check could be verified. 😁🐣🐔🎄

There's someone missing from the front yard....because he is in the garage. I found the motor arm for the elephant's trunk askew and no longer operating the trunk. Has it happened before? Yes. Do I think the timing is related to the elephant wanting to be inside during our upcoming -9F cold snap? Absolutely. The timing is pretty suspicious. 😉

Post-party cleanup is almost done. 🤗 This has been a not quite comedy of errors ... Running out of products, a mop that broke, and so forth. 🙄 Following Nancy's recommendation, we researched electric mops. The Bissell version that is both a mop and a vacuum should arrive Wednesday. Fingers crossed it is everything I am hoping it is!

Graduation day! Yesterday, Mike's student, Yewon, and her hubby-to-be, Sami, both earned their PhDs at the Colorado School of Mines. Mike helped with Yewon's hooding ceremony. 🤗 And then everyone, including her parents and aunt from South Korea, came to her house for the party. Mike is now student-less, but empty nest syndrome won't hit quite yet. Yewon is staying at Mines for her 2 year postdoc research position.

Suellen Scott ... Happier pictures. Ziggy snuggles with Mike every day. For hours. She had stopped sitting with him while we were in the apartment for some reason, but is making up for lost time. The other picture is Ziggy in her nest....When we moved into the house, I created this spot in my Mike's closet to make sure Ziggy had a spot that felt safe and comfortable. She loves it and naps here every day.....the temporary nest may end up being permanent. Time will tell.

Freshly mopped! The only things left to do to complete move in are to get the boxes out of the laundry room (washer and dryer delivery on Wednesday) and reorganize the garage to make room for my car. Mike has a few other things on his to do list, like getting the TV mounted on the wall. The rest we will putter with but overall not worry too much about until after Christmas. 🤗

Mike is back from Albuquerque! He went there last week to help construct the reactor for is solar concentrator project, and came back last night. Cirrus and I were happy to see him! Muggins was mad. He spent time avoiding Mike and coming to see me. As Mike and I were sitting on the couch talking, Muggins came up to us, meowing away. He sat down near Mike. Mike said, "Are you going to come up to see me?" Muggins paused, got up on his hind legs so he could put his front paws on the couch and look Mike in the eyes. "No"... and he stormed off. (Muggins does not say "hello" and "no" as clearly as his brother, Braveheart, did; however, he still does use those two words in context.) Don't worry - the story has a happy end. Mike has since been forgiven. :)
Awww, my emotional buddy Muggins 🤗💔

Poor Ziggle.... I brought her to the vet today. She's been in the restroom a lot over the past few weeks. Her blood glucose was normal, but she had glucose in her urine sample. She has lost 1.4 lb since last month. Everything else checks out fine. So, she has new prescription food and we will see if it helps. First picture is Ziggy on her calm kitty pills ahead of her appointment. I am not sure if she thought we were going to the new house. She was super excited when I stopped in the parking lot. Standing up in her carrier and ready to go. I felt terrible 😿....was like "sorry sweetie, just a vet appointment"

Well, interesting day ... No closing tomorrow. The oven hood didn't pass inspection and the appliances weren't in yet, so they were not able to get a Certificate of Occupancy from the county. They are trying to get the closing rescheduled for Wednesday.

Excellent day with the grant committee for the Colorado OEDIT (Office of Economic Development and International Trade). I have been volunteering with them for almost 7 years.....so much needed support for Colorado small businesses. We had another great set of grants applications today and it was wonderful to see all of my aerospace subcommittee buddies. 🙂

While Mike was in Kansas, I was in Poutsville, USA. Ziggy was very angry that I had sent him off. All evening. All morning. We've come a long way from the cat who spent 48 hours hissing at Mike after they first met. I am sure Suellen Scott remembers my concerns on all the hissing.

Rescue mission complete! Mike's parents' truck broke down in Mankato, Kansas. You might say, "gee, should be able to get a Ford truck fixed there"....but not during harvest season! So, he drove out yesterday with a rented pickup, and the 3 of them plus the camper returned to Colorado today. Fate of the truck is TBD... Will know more in a few weeks after harvest season ends.

It's "Quiet-ween" here. Our apartment and the stairs to it are in the back of the building in a dead end nook of the complex. So, unlike the days of 60 or more trick or treaters at our old house, I am expecting zero today. I was a little glum about Quiet-ween...Ziggy thinks it sounds wonderful. 😺💤💤💤💤

Went to the new house today to get a quote on a deck. Jokingly told Mike the green tape team is way ahead of the blue tape team. He noted that all the green tape stuff needs to be done before they do paint touchups. 😉 Muddy, so muddy. The back yard will be much more easily traversed once there is a deck.

New house update.. this was the last weekly visit. We will be there with Lennar on the 3rd for the walkthrough prior to the closing and then we will do the final walkthrough on the 11th prior to taking possession. And there is a resident that Mike said needs to be evicted. 🕷️ I have dozens more pictures of the stuff on our list, but will spare you those.

Last part of the Portland trip: We left the Japanese Garden and met Mike's friend, Adam, at a winery to do a tasting. Really pleasant spot, and since it was Monday afternoon, we were the only customers. After the winery, we watched the Broncos game and had dinner at a local bar and grill. Those Broncos....so hard to love sometimes. 🙄 And you already got the story of our flight. Fantastic short trip!

Bowie... Who was jokingly told he would be going home with us. This super snuggle bug was all ready and followed us to the door. I told him Ziggy would have my head if I came home from vacation with a new cat. 😺
Portland, Day 3, Sunday: We took a road trip to Olympia Washington and had a lovely visit with my cousin, Marieke, and her husband, David...who we finally got to meet! They've only been married a few years 🙀 Time flies. Very glad we got to meet him before his deployment.

She greeted us with hugs and "yay! I'm not dead!" ....an aggressive cancer during the pandemic was tough, but she's fine now and looking forward to getting back to normal. She just got clearance to lift things again last week. 🤗🙏💞💞

We also got to hang out with 3 of their cats, Bowie, Freckle, and Fiddle. Walter maintained his distance. (I did see Walter briefly as we were leaving). Many thanks to both of them for a lovely dinner by the water. 🙂

There was so much wildfire smoke in Washington! I hadn't realized they were having so much trouble with wildfires.

Portland, Day 2 continued: Saturday afternoon, we visited Mike's friend from grad school, Adam, and his family. We had planned to go visit when their second baby was born, but that was Summer of 2020... So, we had a good visit with "baby" Kaya and her older sister, Zoe 🤗. Zoe looks so much like our oldest niece at the same age that her sister was half expecting the picture I texted to be a throwback photo with a story about Maddie. Beautiful spot with tall evergreen trees. We did have a laugh at the hill near their house labeled "snow zone" with a warning about possibly needing chains. Adam said the HOA sign is a bit of an embarrassment for a Colorado native. 😁

tales from the front door - after OEDIT today (great meeting!), I decided to order a pizza so I could spend an hour munching leaves with the mower. When the pizza guy came to the door, he could hear Thursday night football in the background. "So,who's playing tonight?" he asked. "The Bears," I said - pretty proud of myself that I had remembered. "Against who?" "the....Cubs. Bears versus Cubs." ... and that was the moment when the pizza guy realized it was my husband who was actually watching the game. Mike's been tracking the progress of the "bear cubs" for me all evening :)
😁 😃. (For the non-sports people, the Chicago Bears are a football team and the Chicago Cubs are a baseball team)

Portland, Saturday morning - We had lunch at "Heroes American Grill", and then on to the Portland Art museum. We enjoyed the art museum- lots of interesting collections, but what a weird building. It must be a few buildings stitched together, because the floors don't connect. So, lots of up and down stairs to go through each section. I was absolutely in love with the lotus flower lamp. 🤗 I also liked the peonies painting and the Rock of Ages display. The "Bonfire" painting was interesting - even having been to Kyoto twice, I didn't know about the custom.

Home! On today's edition of "Escape from Portland", everything was going smoothly until United cancelled our flight literally as we were checking in. In progress at the kiosk. While they had flights with layovers that would have gotten us in late tonight or tomorrow afternoon during the time slot for Mike's class (he has 62 students for Material Transport this semester), there were no nostop flights. So, much to his chagrin (I could feel the "dear, you are making a scene" look), I bolted over to Southwest. They had one nonstop flight this afternoon that was supposed to leave at 2:05 pm. But it was already 1:43 pm. The plane was late and the guy at the counter was like "At some point, I have to stop selling tickets for this flight ." Insert worried sad face....I assume, because he was like "Oh, ok, 2 more." Tickets were purchased at 1:47 pm. We were called to board at 2:19 pm. Great flight, smooth flight. We even snagged emergency row seats for Mike's long legs. AND... OUR BAGS EVEN MADE IT!!!! Happy to be home. I am well meowed at. Tales and pictures from our weekend in Portland to come.

Went to the new house today to meet with a contractor (and new neighbor!) regarding getting a deck built. Our old house officially sold on Tuesday (October 11th). The walkthrough of the new in is officially scheduled for November 3rd and the closing on November 11th. 11-11. More elevens for the major milestones in our life. Gotta keep a good trend going. 🤗 Anyhow, carpet is installed and things are really coming together. I am going to ask about the trees planted outside the living room window.

Lovely dinner at Abejas in Golden 🤗 Mike noticed I decided to commemorate the occasion by wearing the same color scheme as I did 29 years ago....brown jacket, purple shirt, silver jewelry, black pants, black shoes. It was memorable as the first of many many occasions where we accidentally wore matching outfits. Mike purposefully did not match tonight. 😁

Lovely evening with my parents and the Cat Care Society! Wine, coffee for my mom, heavy hors d'oeuvres and cookies to celebrate the kickoff of the Tails of Painted Cats. Almost all of the sculptures planned for the September 2023 auction have sponsors, which means the artists will get money for their supplies and can get started! My parents sponsored the Santa Claus cat. We sponsored the Rihanna cat and the one designed by my hubby's favorite local artist.

Many thanks to Jarl Anderson for the concert tickets! We went to see Zeal and Ardor at the Bluebird theater last night. The opening bands were Imperial Triumphant (with the masks, they were awful) and Sylvaine (songwriter and female guitarist/singer from Norway.... much better!) . Zeal and Ardor put on an awesome show - even down 2 band members. They had decided to press on when 2 members couldn't play due to illness instead of cancelling the show. Thank goodness! We missed them and Opeth last year when my hubby got Covid.

Stopped by the house to get a quote on fencing. Lots of progress this week....Roof is in progress, painting is done, interior doors installed...I assume, since they are out of the garage, cason is fixed. Lots of saw noise inside for trim, and trim pieces occasionally sticking out of one of the windows for cutting. Will go inside this weekend when they are not working.

I told my hubby's car that he has to be my friend now. Today was an expensive day - nothing major but it all adds up to more than $2000 fast. Plus a new windshield last week. There he is getting a bath after everything was done this morning.

The closing for our old house is now set for October 11 (was the 10th, but that is a bank holiday). Not much progress on the new house this week - they delivered the interior doors and did the ceiling over the balcony area.

Ziggy went to the vet today for her FELV booster. Because she's a senior kitty, we checked her kidneys first - they look great! Once we got home, she was finally able to relax enough to enjoy her "calm kitty" pills. They usually last for about 6 hours.

Texture is done! We stopped by the model homes to get free lunch and ideas for window coverings. Saw that the model home was planning to drink its lunch? 😉 Then, we took a tour of our house - removed a tumbleweed from the garage, saw the texture on the walls (and everything! 😄). Met our new neighbors. Checked out the air conditioning pad.

Good news! Inspection objections were minor and negotiations are complete. On to the next stage - the appraisal for their loan. We had nachos at the food truck that came to the apartment complex, I went for a walk to see the sunset, and I processed my paycheck. Mike has noted how much I enjoy paying myself. 🤗

Yesterday's Project Management Institute event went well! We had 3 great speakers and lots of time for attendees to talk with each other. It was also the first time I had tried the small group discussions format in a group with more than 30 people. We had 160 participants and 24 facilitators across two areas of tables. It went great! 🤗 Good to know the concept scales well. (Picture from the stage was while I kept time for the facilitators)

The buyers decided they only wanted the cheap deal and withdrew their offer. I guess it was worth a try.... we have been saying that we're not giving anyone a $400k gift to update the bathroom and put the house back on the market. 😁 We can update the bathroom for a lot less and try the moving project again in a few years. I told our realtor 2 more weeks. If we don't have an offer by then, we will plan to move back in.

The cats are coping ok with her presence. Last night, Muggins came to investigate. He went into ball o'Muggin mode and watched Jazz in the living room. At one point, she started coming his way, and he braced himself for being brave. She seemed to look right through him and move on. I said "She can't see you, buddy. Jazz is pretty much blind." Not believing me, he continued to sit and then went back to report to Cirrus. Cirrus came out a little later. He touched noses with Jazz twice. She was happy - "Cat! I thought there was a cat here." But then she was confused - he disappeared. Actually, he had jumped onto the couch, but since he wasn't moving, she couldn't find him. He watched her for a while, and then eventually rejoined Muggins in the bedroom. Both cats were on the prowl after Jazz went to bed. They investigated everything and spent some time staring at the dog sleeping on the couch. Being pretty much deaf, blind, and almost 18, Jazz sleeps heavily and paid no heed to her visitors. So, they gave up.

Happy Labor Day! I have the day off, Mike does not. He's all dressed up in his black suit to go teach class today. My parents are visiting friends, so we are watching Jazz. She and I went for a very slow walk in Tucker Gulch this morning. (...less so on the downhill part than on the uphill part coming back.)

Finally! We bought the tickets in 2019, and the pandemic forced multiple reschedules, but we finally got to see Roger Waters' concert last night. 🤗 I especially enjoyed the extra stories he told behind the songs. I also got to see him play "Two Suns in the Sunset" which is an old favorite of mine from "The Final Cut". And free Raytheon advertising! (See pig balloon picture) Well, ok, Roger clearly doesn't like the product catalog, but as someone with over 10 years of experience with the company who was also a Hughes Aircraft history museum tour guide back at the start of her professional career, it was neat to see the quality of the work recognized. 😁 First picture is Mike and Jarl enjoying Club Level life. 😄

The pictures are from my walk...the news is about the ongoing house saga. The closing for the new build has now moved to mid-November. We need to make a decision on the apartment lease by Sept 26 (can extend month to month or declare we will be out before Thanksgiving. If we don't give notice 60 days before it ends, it automatically converts to month to month)....

So, we'll have a few more weeks of showings. We had 6 showings in June, 4 in July, and 22 in August. No offers yet. 4 feedbacks that the kitchen/bath need updating, 2 feedbacks that the yard is too small, rest no feedback or basically "it's nice". Realtor is working on another open house.

The showings this weekend and Monday yielded more comments that the bathroom and kitchen need to be updated. So, the price reduction was apparently not what folks wanted.... Due to the ongoing labor shortage in the Denver area, it looks like they want the work completed instead of $s off so they could get it done. There is another showing tomorrow from 12:45-1:45.... Here's hoping those folks are feeling more handy.

No word from the showings and open house this weekend, but we did take a nice trip to the new house with my parents and then they joined us for happy hour at the apartment. Mike was glad he finally was enough of a noodge to get a napkin thrown at him. A victory for Mike! It's been a while since he said something that got my mom to throw her napkin at him. 😄 Balance of the universe restored.

Ziggy has informed me that the ownership status of the pillow on the couch has changed. Forever. I will have to find something else to lean on. 😸😉

Great news! After months of back and forth with the SBA and needing to resubmit the application, I can now use the WOSB (Woman Owned Small Business) designation when bidding on government contracts. Full approval via final SBA review could take another 90 days. Cyber security score is up next. Big plans for 2023. 🤗

Ziggy wishes you all a Happy International Cat Day... from the safety of her cat bunker. Adam from our apartment facilities team stopped by to fix something, briefly, quietly (depending upon which resident you ask), so Ziggy has retreated for the day.

Went for a walk after dinner. It looks like an autumn moon, but it is definitely not autumn out there. What happened to those cool desert summer nights? *sigh*

Last day in Boston, Part 2: The second tour of the TD Garden brought us "back stage" and onto the floor. It's concert season, so the basketball floor was picked up. You'll see a picture where I am pretending to figure skate. I was kinda twirling and looking around as I am prone to doing, and Mike reminded me "no figure skating".... That is in reference to when I permanently injured my right ankle during the 1984 Winter Olympics. Watching intently, I had been convinced I had what it took to do a triple axle, so I leapt into the air, tucked, twirled, and learned the hard way that the spinning isn't the hard part... 😉 I reinjured that ankle in 2012 chasing a cat, and now we call it "swelly". Anyhow, we had a good time. 🤗 The train ride back was uneventful, the plane ride the next day was pleasantly uneventful given the plague of cancelled flights and lost luggage facing the country, and we were glad to see Ziggy. Always glad to see the Ziggle.

What a week! I am behind on posting pictures, but literally....better late than never. 😁 Here are the pictures from our last day in Boston. We decided to spend a few hours touring the TD Garden, where the Celtics and Bruins play. And this time we took the train....the orange line. On our way out, it was announced "the train is arriving, and all the cars are brand new" .... Just a few days prior, one of the orange line trains ended up on fire while on the bridge just past the Garden. No one was hurt. One lady chose to jump from the bridge into the river.

The first tour was to see the arena from the newly renovated top level and then the sports memorabilia areas on the club level.

Boston, Day 5: It was Sunday, July 24th, the day of record breaking 99 deg heat. With the humidity in Boston, it was an oppressive heat. Having completed what we wanted to see on the Freedom Trail, we laid low most of the day. Our room was on the second floor, overlooking the start of a pedestrian mall. By midday, the normal sounds of people, musicians, cars, and buses at that corner gave way to silence. We weren't the only ones avoiding the sun..... Later in the day, we took a walk through Boston Commons and the Public Garden.

New house update - we drove to see the new house after brunch - much progress! Siding and HVAC are going in, and most of the windows are in. Stairs are in so we could go upstairs to Mike's loft (gaming area, bathroom, and office) as well as the basement. Kitchen comes with a microwave. 😉 (But not that one - it belongs to the construction crew ) Our contact at Lennar (builder for new house) is going to check on the footing for the back balcony at their construction tagup tomorrow.

And then I get to have a more difficult conversation.... Due to current market conditions, we are looking at having to do a substantial price reduction on our old house, which would make the cost of the new house unaffordable. The builder has said they are willing to negotiate the price of the new house so the math still works for us.... remains to be seen if they are thinking along the same numbers as I am. I don't expect to get an answer quickly. But *fingers crossed*

Boston, Day 4, Part 6 of 6:
Next stop on the Freedom Trail was Paul Revere's house. That was about half way between the church and the hotel. ....And now you have seen as much of Paul Revere's house as we did. Mike had been under the erroneous impression that I held Paul Revere in high regard for his role in the revolution. While we were in the Bunker Hill museum, he was surprised that I felt cheated to learn that Paul got a boat ride to Charleston where he was given a horse for the ride. I said, "wait? So he only rode one way?!?" That prompted a discussion about Long Island public schools, through which he learned that I only knew Paul Revere as "some dude who rode a horse shouting 'The British are coming '. " 😄 So, we get to the Paul Revere house, we are drenched at this point and wondering how bad our sunburn might be, and there's a line. Outside the house, there's a guy whose kid doesn't know who Paul Revere is. Corroborating my story about local education, the guy tells his son, "Paul Revere was a big deal during the Revolution. He's the guy who rode through towns shouting 'The British are coming'." At which point, Mike voted that we skip because apparently neither I or most other people in the region actually care about Paul Revere's accomplishments. 💖 😄

So, we went back to the hotel for much needed showers, rest, water, and air conditioning. In the evening, we went to get ramen. So tasty. We really enjoyed the textured chop sticks. After dinner, we had some drinks in the hotel bar. I keep joking that I feel like I am on the set of Friends or something. The little seating area just feels contrived. But comfy. And the drinks are good. ☺️

Boston, Day 4, Part 4:
After the USS Constitution, we looked at getting a ride back to the hotel but there wasn't an Uber or taxi to be found by the Navy Yard. We had known it was a risk, due to the traffic and construction on the bridges. Resigned to our sweaty fate, we started on the we 2-mile walk back. Before crossing the bridge to our area, we stopped at a maybe famous? Self proclaimed famous? ...well, anyway, we were overheating and they had air-conditioning, water, and ice cream.

Heading towards the bridge, we were on the temporary Freedom Trail, since the side with the bricks was torn up. I think it was cute that someone actually bothered to paint a new route over the temporary (and at times a little terrifying) pedestrian bridge.

Mike was busy mumbling something about the burying ground we were walking towards having certain death but it's not supposed to be ours.... He, umm, loved the bridge, the tar path on flimsy vibrating metal, and all the heat and humidity. 😉

Copp's burying ground on the freedom trail, sadly named after the family whose child was the first person buried there. We liked the skulls with angel wings.

Boston, Day 4, Part 2: After seeing the monument, we sought shelter in the Bunker Hill museum. Lots of great displays regarding the battle itself as well as everything leading up to the creation of the monument. They also had an interesting display on the changing shoreline of Boston. At the Old State House museum the day before, we learned that much of the land Boston is built on was fill - they leveled 2 local hills and a portion of a third to get the needed material. I also really liked the display on the alternate monument designs.

Boston, Day 4, Part 1: the day before the record breaking heat . ... We were back on the Freedom Trail! We started out the day by taking a taxi to the Bunker Hill Monument. Mike made sure to walk forwards on the trail (little brick path in the sidewalk)... We had been joking the day before that if forwards on the trail is the path to freedom, then walking backwards must erode our freedoms. 😉

Grumble, grumble. After almost 7 hours at the old house cleaning (can't believe we put it on the market a month and a half ago!), I am back this morning after retrieving the carpet cleaner from the storage space. Someone spilled what looks and feels to be soda in the living room. Otherwise, things look good!

Boston, Day 3: The last conference session was from 1-2 on, where we got a sense of our travel plans for 2023 and 2024 (Japan and England?) and enjoyed hearing from Truls Norby of the University of Oslo as well as from a professor Mike knows at the university in Fukuoka, Japan. After that, we changed hotels ... just half a mile or so closer to the tourist stuff to make walking easier. We started on the Freedom Trail that afternoon (historic sites from the American Revolution) , with a few air conditioning breaks. We saw the Old State House museum, the Faneuil Hall, the Bookstore with what we joked was the oldest Chipotle restaurant and the Old South Meeting House. We also had a lovely dinner at a restaurant Mike found before I got to Boston (Stillwater), and hung out at the hotel afterwards. I love the stairwell. 🤗

Boston, Day 2: I mostly worked from the hotel while Mike was busy with the conference and edits to one of Yewon's papers. Love the gardens on higher floors of the buildings. On breaks, I was endlessly entertained by the view from our room where I could see Boston drivers' loose relationship with lanes. 😁 Also really enjoyed the fancy ballroom at the Park Plaza Hotel. In the evening, we had a lovely dinner with Yewon and Tony (a friend/coworker/customer from California) at a place reminiscent of the grills we visited in Asia. Yewon was very happy with the choice, since she could get a dinner like she would at home (South Korea).

Boston last week! Mike went to Boston for the Solid State Ionics conference. His PhD student, Yewon, presented a paper and did very well! I joined the crew Wednesday evening for the conference banquet after an uneventful flight. We had a nice time at the conference banquet, but lordy - do not leave a big event in the hands of MIT kids. They had us bused to a museum with mostly children's science exhibits, we got a buffet dinner with salad, chicken, pasta, etc. ...and that was it. We were on our own for entertainment. We did spend some time comparing it to past banquets. We also spent time programming an adorable hedgehog.

Tales of our Australia adventure, Day 13-14 - Last installment! 🙀 The last full day of our trip was my hubby's milestone birthday. I already posted the pictures from his lovely birthday dinner at a steak house with a view of the Sydney Opera house. During the day, we made him walk a lot. It wasn't the original plan, but it turns out the Sydney Aquarium is closed for part of the week, and that was our only opportunity to go. We went to a BBQ restaurant to get ribs for lunch. They were very tasty ribs! Like most food in Australia, the sauce was quite sweet. The walk to the aquarium was a couple of miles, but the weather was decent. Having timed tickets for limited entry, we were not prepared for the scene at the aquarium. "Limited" was us and about 130 other people. The line to get tickets scanned only took 10 minutes or so despite its daunting appearance. They took group photos for us at the entrance, which we got free digital copies of. The first little bit of the aquarium was filled with screaming kids, but things calmed down after that. I really enjoyed the walkways under the tanks, the penguins, and the jellyfish. We also had a good laugh about the dugong (relative of the manatee). Strong personality there. 😁 But his keeper eventually won him over with lettuce. After the aquarium, we had a quiet afternoon followed by Mike's birthday dinner. The flight back was much better than the one to Sydney - in part because a strong tail wind made it almost 3 hours shorter. 😊 Having Global Entry and TSA Pre made the transition through customs in San Francisco pretty smooth. We were glad to get home to the watchful eyes of Ziggy. Many thanks go to Auntie Linda for watching Ziggy and receiving packages for Will and Hannah's birthday. Many thanks also go to my dad for taking care of our house while we were away. The trip in Australia made all the travel hassle worthwhile. We are looking forward to a future trip (not yet planned but in the docket) to New Zealand, including seeing Courtney and family. 🤗

Tales from our Australia adventure, Day 12 of 14: The group split up for a variety of activities. Mike and I went to the Museum of Contemporary Art.... Lovely stuff! Lots of local artists. The highlight of the day was the opera. We went to see the opening night of Madama Butterfly at the Sydney Opera house. Absolutely fantastic production complete with counter rotating stages, large TV panels around the stage to create more of a background, and a talented passionate cast. It had all the drama of an opera story, including that the main male lead got sick and had to go to the doctor after the first act. His understudy did an excellent job of jumping into the story and taking over. Love the acoustics there - no amplification used.

I followed the instructions for leaving it where she sleeps, and then we tried it out tonight. A scared kitty in a big world, she looked at the little grassy area between the apartment buildings with big eyes and army-crawled around in her harness. We reached one of the first floor apartments where the patio door was open. A little dog came racing out, barking. I scooped Ziggy up and moved her farther down the path. She sat there, and decided "hell no, that dog doesn't win". With a beat down in mind, she walked on the harness just fine, sticking her head under patio walls trying to find the right one. 😄🙄 We came back inside.

Tales from our Australia adventure, Day 11 of 14: We had a quiet day - Mike spent more time working on Yewon's dissertation and I spent some time walking along the water. I saw a pair of lorikeets by the art museum. One of the school kids there informed me that they are different from the king parrots in her back yard. The 8 of us had a very nice dinner at a Chinese and Malaysian restaurant, and then it was back to wharf watching until bedtime.

Tales from our Australia adventure, Day 11 of 14: Last leg of the trip....We flew from Cairns back to Sydney. (3-hour flight) At the Cairns airport, we had lunch at Burger King.... I mean Hungry Jack's. The only thing they changed was the name. In 1977, when Burger King expanded to Australia, they found there was already a different company called Burger King in Australia; hence, the name change. Our flight to Sydney went well! When we lived in Los Angeles, one of Mike's goals had been to stay at the Four Seasons. So, I booked the hotel for his birthday, and it did not disappoint! The Four Seasons gave Mike a free upgrade to a top floor suite for his birthday. It has a large living room, dining room, 2 bathrooms - probably the size of our apartment! They also left him a cute little birthday cake. All rooms can see the harbor and the opera house. 😊 We had a late dinner at a local Italian restaurant who was up to the task of supporting a last-minute reservation for 8 people. Good food!

Australia, Day 10, Part 2 of 2: After the tram, we went to the butterfly sanctuary, had a really nice BBQ buffet lunch, and then wandered around the wildlife park. Still can't get over how cute the wallabies are. Pictures also include 2 kangaroos begging for something and a passed out wombat. Maybe Ziggy is part wombat - she sleeps the same way. 😁

Then, we went on a duck boat tour, saw an aborigine dance performance, worked with a couple of the aborigines on how to throw a boomerang, saw their digeridoo and spear throwing demonstration, then went back to Cairns via the scenic railway. For the boomerangs, Mike got a hand shake and "good job!" from our guide. The rest of us would probably lose a lot of weight if we were depending upon our skills to hunt birds.

Tales from our Australia adventure, Day 10 of 14, Part 1 of 2:
Last full day in Cairns...how time flies! We had a leisurely day on the rainforest tour. It started with a tram ride. I had not known Rob doesn't like trams before that, but this one was 50 minutes long with 2 stops to see the rain forest and Barron Falls. And it was really tall!
We had a little recording of a ranger to listen to as we went up. At one point he said to not just look at the top of the rain forest, but to look down and deep into the rain forest to see some of the different plants he was talking about. Rob was definitely in the 'not no but hell no' camp.

Australia, Day 9 of 14: A much deserved and anticipated Down Day! No formal plans, plenty of time to enjoy the view and rest our tired feet. Mike and I had a lovely dinner at a restaurant on the pier called "The Salt House". We spent time at night watching life at the "Prawn Star" - 4 boats that formed a floating restaurant just beyond our balcony.

Australia, Day 8, Part 5 of 5: Get ready for something so cute! 🤗 To finish our tour, there was one more stop! We drove 2 hours back towards Cairns and fed the Wallabies at the Granite Gorge park. Omg, they are adorable and so soft. Maddie said if she lived in Cairns, she would be there all the time.

Australia, Day 8, Part 4 of 5: After the cave, we had lunch at a pub in Chillagoe and stopped by the Chillagoe Smelter. The towns out that way were originally built by the mining industry, but that activity has really ramped down. The population of Chillagoe is about one tenth of what it was back then. After the smelter, we went to see Balancing Rock and some ancient aborigine art.

Tales of our Australia adventure, Day 8, Part 2:

After the coffee stop, we drove 2 hours to Calligoe for a tour of the Royal Arch cave. They have a nice loop path through the cave, but it was the first cave tour I have had with no lights! The only lighting was from the 13 flashlights (12 in our group and our guide). For the times where I was last in line, I was impressed by how dark it got as everyone moved on. Keeps people like me from dawdling too much to take pictures. 😄

Lots of big spiders! I guess there's bats that poop, roaches who eat the poop, spiders who eat the roaches, and snakes who eat the bats. Circle of life?

Tales of our Australia adventure, Day 8 of 14 Part 1: After all the rough seas, the adventurers, and I am certain the viewers of our videos, were looking forward to a day on land! Aye, mate - it's time to head to the Outback!

Northern Australia has everything all together - lovely shoreline in Cairns, a rain forest just beyond the city, and if you drive west a couple of hours, nothing but desert. I promised you a thread of transportation issues, and this is fortunately, the last part of that story.

We gathered for another early morning tour pickup - 6:50 am this time. By 7:10 am, we had so many questions. This time, the vehicle issues were actually good news....... The normal Billy Tea safari off road vehicles broke down, so the 12 people on our tour (our crew plus 4 others) got to sprawl out in a coach bus. We traveled an hour west of Cairns to Mareeba for our first stop at the Starbury Coffee Plantation. Such a beautiful spot... Definitely could have spent a lot more time there, but after the vehicle issues, we only had 25 minutes for tea/coffee and a tasty scone on their balcony, from which we could see wallabies also having breakfast.

Spent a bit of time on the house today - yard work, fussing with the garden sprayers, and some light cleaning inside, since it has been a month since we left. Was rewarded by torch lillies, which look almost neon at twilight. 😍

Tales from our Australia adventure, Day 7 of 14... Half way!

Our trip to the Great Barrier Reef was quite a challenge. A once in a lifetime experience I only plan to do once. 😉 To get there, you have to travel 15 miles off the coast into the open ocean. The wind was whipping, some of the waves were as tall as I am and the ship had a little sick bay going to start off the morning, including Rannae with Mike and Gwenn borderline. We spent the entire day at sea - the tides were too high with the incoming storm to make their usual afternoon stop at an island. We went to one part of the reef in the morning and moved to a different part of the reef in the the afternoon.

In the morning, Valerie went scuba diving. Rannae gave diving a go but didn't last. The company kindly refunded both diving fees. Maddie went snorkeling. I went on the glass bottom boat tour twice - once with Mike and once with Maddie and Rob. Maddie said the view was the same as what she got snorkeling - muted colors looking down through the water. Lots of fish, lots of good info from our tour guide who was enjoying the weather because it reminded him of being home in Wales. (He moved to Australia after marrying an Aussie.)

Gwenn and Terry also took a glass bottom boat tour, but only Terry got to see the reef - the waves did Gwenn in for the day. A+ to my new camera for the day. I am amazed how well the pictures and video turned out despite the motion. I will have to selfishly give the photographer an A for not dropping the camera while trying to hold onto the boat. 😊

Lunch was quite pleasant - baked chicken legs, potatoes, vegetables, bread, and fruit. By this time, we had lost Rannae, Val, and Gwenn to the sick bay with Mike still borderline. Maddie was in high spirits - we talked about how she, Rob, and I are boat people. 🤗 It's always a great day when you realize what you can do better than others.

After lunch, we went to the second reef. Maddie went on the drift snorkeling tour by herself. !!! 💞 The glass bottom boat took them out away from the main boat and they slowly swam with the tide back to us. The intrepid photographer was on the third deck of the boat, hanging on with the motion and the wind to capture the moment. Again, A+ to the motion stabilizer in this camera.

Rannae and Val perked up enough for a quick snorkel after the main tour was done. Maddie went with them.

The trip back was a wild ride into the storm. Like our own little version of "Deadliest Catch" with water pouring over parts of the ship. A significant part of the lower deck was now the sick bay. Oy vey, the smell. But, after an hour or so, we were back on dry land. We had pizza for dinner at the Pier Bar and called it a day. 😊

Tales of our Australia adventure, Day 6 of 14:
We said goodbye to Brisbane and took a 9 am Qantas flight to Cairns. (Pronounced more like Cans) New airport, new rules, but we made it with 3 minutes to spare before boarding started. We ate a late lunch at the Shangri-la Hotel after we arrived, and the rest of the day was quiet - just enjoying our balcony on the marina. There was just enough wind that it didn't smell fishy, so Mike enjoyed the marina, too. (Normally he doesn't like being by the ocean because of the fishy smells)

Australia, Day 5, Part 2: Not sure what Rob said, but he pissed off that bird. 😁

Actually, they seem easily angered. They are called Curlews. They want your food. When they don't get what they want, they look at you sideways with their eyes squinted and make a "rrrrrr" like an angry Chihuahua.

Tales of our Australia adventure, Day 5 of 14, Part 1 of 3:

Happy Winter Solstice from Down Under! This winter solstice celebration was very different from my normal snowy bonfire in December.

Our last day in the Brisbane area was planned to be a full one. We were traveling to the Tangalooma Island Resort on Moreton Island, a 75-minute catamaran ferry ride from the city. We needed to be at the ferry by 6:30 am, and it was roughly a 20-minute drive from the hotel. So, I stopped by the hotel front desk the day before to book transportation. She told me she would have to contact a different company, because the vehicle belonging to the guy they usually use broke down over the weekend. I said, "Yeah, I know. We were there." She looked at me quizzically, but didn't ask.

The next morning, we gathered in the lobby. I found our driver, in a dark car. Turns out his battery died while he was waiting for us. Fortunately, the taxi stand outside the hotel was full, and he was easily able to get a replacement for us.

Check-in for the ferry went smoothly. We spent some time wondering if the painting of a whale with a tumor was really a humpback whale. 😉

Back in Colorado, the Avalanche (Denver Hockey) were competing in the Stanley Cup finals. We provided some international support with a view! Well, the international support didn't work for that game.

We had fun at Moreton Island. Gwenn, Rannae, Maddie, and Valerie went snorkeling in some rather cold water (it is winter in Australia....) but got to see lots of cool fish. Spoilers....good thing they were able to get that swim in.

All 8 of us went on an ATV tour in the afternoon Moreton Island is a "sand island" - no soil, sand everywhere! Lots of dunes to ride on with "Officer Maddie". Lovely resort and way to spend the day. The catamaran rides to and from the island were very smooth. Mike said, "Shine on, you crazy diamond"....chilly or not, of course I spent both rides out on the deck instead of tucked into the very nice passenger cabin.

Tales from our Australia adventure, Day 4 of 14: Down day! Logistics for group travel require a lot of scheduling. So, down days are very important...a day to rest your feet, do your own thing, sleep in. During the afternoon, we went to the City Park and Botanic Gardens across the street from the hotel. They were busy planting the next round of plants, so we spent most of the time wandering along the river. Dinner was at an Italian restaurant - so much food!

Tales from our Australia adventure, Day 3 of 14: For Father's day, we went to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. They could only accommodate 6 people on their behind-the-scenes yours, so we went with the Lyons on the All Stars tour plus 2 pm Koala hold, while Gwenn and Terry went on 3 tours to cover roughly the same interactions with holding raptors, holding a koala, and feeding the platypus. First up, we met one of many birds in Australia that growl. The keeper called it a purr that the owl only does when interacting with humans. You can decide for yourself from the video.

Valerie helped sort the worms for feeding the platypus. They swim with their eyes closed and rely upon sound to find their food. The boxes are where they sleep. They take a series of tubes from their tank to their box. And sorting worms isn't as easy as it sounds. Unlike our sleepy earthworms, Australian worms are twisty and jumpy. They kept jumping off the table!

Koalas are adorable! And so sleepy. By law, they have a 4-day work week, and are required to have one day off each week and can only work 30 minutes a day. Our tour guide noted, "The koalas have a very strong labour union." Everyone got to hold a koala. Maddie's koala was busy keeping an eye on the wild turkeys, but there is one picture where he looked at the camera.

We got to pet kangaroos.....so soft. 🤗💞

In the evening, we had dinner at the Noodle Bowl festival at the city park across from our hotel.

Tales from our Australia adventure, Day 2 of 14, part 1 of 2:

Saturday, we went to Mt. Coot-ha (pronounced Coo-tha). This was the start of what became a running joke about our bad luck with transportation. We had 2 taxis to take the 8 of us to the top of the mountain. The taxi we were in for slower and slower and slower. The driver had to pull over part way up the mountain because it just quit, so we walked the rest of the way up. We offered to pay him a discounted fare, but he refused to charge us at all. At the top of the mountain, we saw the overlook, took a little over an hour walk through a beautiful Eucalyptus forest, had lunch at the Botanic Gardens and then went to the planetarium. The planetarium show really highlighted that we were not home any more... All numbers in metric and Celsius. "The sun is lowest in the northern sky as we head into the winter solstice on June 21, the shortest day of the year. Of course, everyone is familiar with the summer solstice, which occurs right before Christmas." 🙀🤯

Tales from our Australia adventure, Day 1 of 14:
We left Denver on June 15 and landed in Sydney on June 17. After landing in Sydney, we took another flight to Brisbane. All totaled, it was 31 hours of travel from the time we were picked up to go to the airport to when we checked in at our hotel in Brisbane Here are pictures from our flight to Sydney, our flight from Sydney to Brisbane, as well as the exploration of Brisbane by the less sleepy people. Trying to sleep on the flight to Sydney was nearly impossible - turbulence, babies, and more.

We're back! We spent just over 2 weeks in Australia - great trip with my hubby, his parents, his sister, and her family. Catching up on Ziggy things - she has had a list of everything we need to catch up on. We also caught up on yard work at the house. We had 2 showings yesterday. Here's hoping the market is waking back up.

Sunday fun day! The benefit of a second floor balcony is getting to watch the crazy squirrels up close. Sometimes, they were a little too close....Ziggy is staying close to me just in case she needs backup.

The garage is clean! We spent a few hours at the house this morning - sprinkler repair, weeding, trimming off dead flowers before pictures on Tuesday, and, more time for the garage cleanup. Here are some pictures of the staging. It's almost done. 🙀 Weird to see totally different furniture in our house. It goes on the market Wednesday. I laughed that the bedroom upstairs I had in blue ended up with blue and the bedroom upstairs with the animal theme ended up with an animal theme. There must just be a vibe in those rooms.

Celebrating my birthday by taking a light load to the storage space. 😉 Today, and each day of the previous 9 days, our mantra has been "every day is moving day"... We have literally moved stuff out of the house every day. Should be done June 5th.... So, 10 days down, 6 to go? 🥺

Fortunately for me, Memorial Day has always been an abstract concept - I have been blessed to have not known anyone killed in military service. But I know many who have not been so fortunate, whether losing family or teammates in training or active combat. Sending my gratitude to those you have known who paid the ultimate price for our freedom and prayers for the loved ones left behind. Memorial Day for those who died in service, Armed Forces Day for those in service now, and Veteran's Day to thank those who served and became home. 🙏💖😔

Mike added my new worker comp sign to the doomsday clock. He said, "wait, only half and not all?" to which I replied, "Someone lobbied hard for that one." ....sorry, now you probably have to read the sign, but it's a quick read.
Sink project or doomsday clock? 😉
In the year 2000, I bought Mike a pipe for his birthday. He used to sit on the balcony of our apartment in Beverlywood and smoke it. Not long after that, he stopped smoking pipes and cigarettes. He was sad about leaving the pipe behind, and we agreed then that if anyone ever got nuked, he was free to start smoking again. (I'm a cold war kid from New York....) Today, I noticed the pipe had moved from its spot on the top shelf next to the little white vase to a lower shelf. Ostensibly, to retrieve pipe cleaners for the sink project, but I told him it looked more like a doomsday clock. 😁 Happy Friday the 13th! Fortunately, 13 happens to be my lucky number... 😉

In 2015, I started volunteering for the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT). I am on the Aerospace subcommittee for a small business grant program. We review grant proposals from Colorado small businesses in order to select which ones will get state grants. I look forward to the committee reviews, like the one we had last week in Denver. I got the final tally of everyone who was selected - so many great local small businesses! It is rewarding to both help local small businesses and help be a good steward of taxpayer money. Looking forward to another round of applications this fall!

Belated post from last week: I got the tour and the t-shirt! Stopped by Barber Nichols last Tuesday to see all the changes to my old MK-48 torpedo program. I was program manager for the production restart a few years ago. Now, production has restarted! All sorts of facility upgrades, expanded team size, and they make 15 alternators and 15 regulators a month....just as planned! Was good to see familiar faces and meet the new team.

Mouse number 3 caught tonight. Definitely smaller, so I am convinced mom and 2 babies thus far. Maybe it's wishful thinking - hoping it is just a single family and I can start counting down to having caught them all. Nonetheless, we are going to try to figure out alternate points of entry to the one we found and blocked off.

Hello from the Physics building! Yesterday, I went to Physics fest at the Colorado School of Mines. Great to see the students' research projects... especially Fourier Optics and Quantum Computing. 🤗💖💕 Also enjoyed catching up with my first quantum mechanics professor, Tim Ohno. (I'm the weirdo who has had multiple semesters of quantum mechanics, including graduate school) ...He's keeping an eye on my projections that hackers will use quantum computing to topple cryptocurrency in 8-10 years and that we were 50 years away from commercialized fusion in 1997... Which means we're ...um, closer to it than I would like to admit. 😉 Just kidding - as I always say, aging doesn't bother me. I know a lot of people who didn't make it this far. *Sigh* Anyhow, someone gave this year's students some tips on graphic arts because all the posters looked great!

Yesterday, planting all the perennials was painful work with a lot of sneezing from all the dust kicked up when I disturbed the mulch, but I was rewarded with rain! Perennials live cool cloudy rainy weather for stretching their roots and preparing to face hot and freezing weather in the days and months ahead. Fingers crossed the weather today and tomorrow will help. 🤗

Thanks to Cheryl and Alex, I have 2 new traps coming on Monday. Hopefully, one of them will work. In the meantime, I put the plate with peanut butter back out so the mouse (or vole?) continues to return to our appointed spot. I did catch a Ziggy! Oops, basement closet door is now better secured.

Plants! The last perennials needed to complete the gardens have arrived. I know it looks like a little mug shot lineup, but I was looking for a spot outside for them to rest after their UPS journey from New Mexico. It has been very windy lately; hopefully, that wall will provide sufficient protection until tomorrow.
Apr 30, 2022 3:41:13 pm
Cat and mouse...We've been seeing this little guy on and off for a couple of months. He has resisted trapping. I have finally been able to reliably get him by the ring camera using some peanut butter. Still resisting trapping. He likes to sit on them. I now have lots of video of him sitting on them. At the age of 14, Ziggy is not much for catching mice, but she patrols the basement daily. Hate to have to poison the little guy, but I think I am running out of other options. ☹️☹️☹️ Rat poison us such a terrible death (leaches Vitamin K out of the body so their blood stops clotting and they bleed to death)

Interior projects continue - we had a list of things to do for selling our house, and we're continuing to do them.... Mike has been updating all the door hardware to match and I finally was able to procure 2 not-white drop in sinks for upstairs. After even getting a home Depot order cancelled because they didn't actually have any in stock, I found one at the Arvada Lowe's and one at the Lakewood Lowe's. The one from Arvada must have been returned at some point - it came with a bonus measuring tape! Really nice one. Somewhere in Arvada, a frustrated person is looking for where they put their measuring tape... Sorry and thank you - it lives here now. 😁

Happy Won't Look Whisker Wednesday.... Squirrel! And off she went. Ziggy and I just got back from the vet. She has started "guarding her water bowl" again, so we tried one more antibiotic injection. If this doesn't work, her vet recommends an ultrasound.

*sigh* deal fell through during inspection. So, no move. And thus the window to move to a smaller single floor house with less yard where we could be mortgage free after selling this house closes. Not really sure how to keep up with it all while ramping up activities on my business, but I will figure something out. We will evaluate what happens to the local market over the summer and go from there. I will also keep an eye on fire season trends and how my asthma fares with the smoke. If last year's craziness becomes a new baseline, I may favor moving out of state at some point anyhow.

The past 8 days have been incredibly full - so much so I have pictures that haven't been posted. Last Tuesday, I had the opportunity to go to the Space Symposium Exhibit hall at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, thanks to the Colorado Space Coalition. 🤗 After almost 25 years in the industry, I knew so many people there. Lots of ideas for growing my company. Lots of catching up to do with so many people after a couple of years of pandemic craziness. The day closed with the Colorado Governor speaking at the rebranding party - and I got a t-shirt. 😁 Friday, I processed my first full time paycheck for myself through my company (versus W2 consulting through another company). It's a big milestone that I hope to leverage for big things in the future. But live what matters - the week was somewhat overshadowed by concerns about Ziggy's health, which culminated in a vet visit on Tuesday, where she was treated for dehydration. The cause has not yet been found, so there is risk of it coming back. She is better, but still not quite her usual self. And Wednesday came with getting under contract for a different house. We have made the difficult decision to move back into a smaller single floor house, with the hopes it resolves issues for me where this house feels like "a bit much to handle". It's not an easy housing market in which to make a change, but after 4 months of looking and lots of tours and bids, we found a remodeled ranch home in Arvada. Inspection and closing still to come, and we are looking forward to getting to explore it a bit more.... In the current market in Denver, there is so little time to go from tour to buy that I described it in our discussions as having a lunch date and agreeing to get married. 😉 Regardless, we are hoping easier single floor living makes it all worthwhile! More to come on that....

Ziggy is home from the vet. Kidneys are perfect. Blood sugar is perfect. Thyroid was perfect. Hematocrit was high. She got fluids, electrolytes, an anti nausea shot, and an antibiotic shot. She came home with a hearty appetite to finally eat her breakfast. No eval on her heart, so I will keep an eye on her for that as well as if the dehydration returns.

and then the huntress became the hunted. I came home from work early today because I was tired of coughing and coughing in cubeville. After lunch and some failed attempts to stop coughing, I decided to take Chloe outside. We had a very nice walk around the yard, and then she picked up on a snake. She chased him across the rocks and he went through the fence. What she didn't see (but I did) was that our neighbors' dog, Zeke, was sitting on his patio watching. She stuck her head through the fence. "Chloe! No." She looked at me, looked at the snake, and stuck her front paw and should through the fence. I yelled at her again and jumped up on the wall to chase her back. At this point, Zeke comes charging the fence, Chloe finally sees him, and she retreats to a safe distance. Then, Zeke found the snake and it came blazing through back onto our side of the fence.... but Chloe the Snake Hunter had lost interest. Our neighbor, Maggie, came out of the house laughing. "Did I hear that right? Did she really consider coming over here?" I said yes - she was hunting a snake.

First fire of 2022 - and Ziggy joined us for the first time! ....until the little black cat showed up. Ziggy was not about to share her back yard, so I had to arbiter the cat wars (yelling at each other through the gate) until Mike was able to lure her inside. Lovely night - stars were very bright and clear, no wind, reasonably warm for this time of year. 🤗

I always forget how big the side yard is. 50 feet of rabbit fence was not enough. I closed the gap with some temporary silver fence and ordered more of the black fence online.

We had a visitor again last night. This time, he came in around 9:30 pm because he was hanging around the house and I had seen the local fox during my walk. Little goofball found a pile of old catnip. He was just fine ....left at 5:30 am this morning. Ziggy was very sweet about his visit. There was no hissing on either side of the door.

Zonked cat. A few weeks ago, we saw a mouse in the basement. Ziggy and I were close to him for eye to eye contact before he disappeared. We set out traps, but I really do think he left. Nonetheless, Ziggy has persisted in monitoring the corner in the basement where we saw him. I woke up at 5 am to find a very sleepy cat still sitting in that corner. I carried her upstairs. Guard the basement... 💤💤💤💤

Our 3 am visitor.... I brought him in because I think his owners are out of town and it was too cold for a skinny little cat to be running around. This is the second time he has spent the night. He was braver and Ziggy was calmer... In that, he hung out with me for a while and didn't hiss at her. She only threw her shoulder into the door to try to bust through once and only hissed once. She did maintain a guard shift in the hallway. I let him back out at 7:30 am. He was still chipper and spent some time visiting on the front step before deciding to go check out the rabbits under our spruce tree.

28 years ago, I met my hubby on the campus tour for the Colorado School of Mines. I had asked my tour guide, Shannon, for detailed information about the labs in the physics department. She said, "Honestly, I stay as far away from that building as possible, but Mike can answer your questions." Here are some pictures from my photo album. My main notes seem to have been "It was windy." "It's so dry on the plains that you have to water the trees, and the grass goes crunch!" (As observed by someone from Long Island, where you spend your time desperately trying to stop things from growing.)
Aww, met my hubby 29 years ago 🤗

Mike said I needed to take a picture to prove I am trying to do my part to warm things up. 😉 Actually, I have been looking for an opportunity to burn out these really really old Sternos for a while. Glad I didn't light them inside. They keep popping and sending sparks everywhere. To be fair, t think they are probably 20ish years old.

Loafing after her rabies vaccine. Ziggy passed her vet visit with flying colors! Heart and lungs are great. The change in her food has fixed the allergy issue that was producing runny eyes and chronic ear infections (ears are clear!). And her kidney function has actually improved! Pretty good for turning 14 in April. 🤗💕💕💕🐱
She was very good at the vet, even during the 15 minutes we had to wait for blood test results before she got her vaccine. Tech with tattoos who said how pretty Ziggy is was permitted to pet her. Other tech that laughed about Ziggy sitting in the scale got a piece of her mind. A loud piece 😁

I am working to help my brother get into his Facebook account. He had lost interest in it and, instead of deactivating, just didn't log in. Facebook no longer recognizes any of his devices and picked 4 people he doesn't even have phone numbers for as the ones who must rescue him. Don't end up like my brother.... Click on the little bars and click on the wheel. Go to password and security. Set up 2 factor identification. Also, pick the 3-5 people you want Facebook to use if you end up locked out like my brother... people you have phone numbers for who are active on Facebook so they can retrieve the unlock codes for you. 😎

Great Nuggets game last night! And we got to see super mascot Rocky's ladder shot and half court shot. 😊

Kari S Sanders shared a post.
So sad to be watching all the news of pets lost to the fire scroll by on some of the groups I follow. Sharing this photo of a real difference maker. Dogs are amazing. This one has been locating the remains of pets who perished so their families can have closure. 😿💕

Looks like this is the guard post for the day. I messed up and hopefully we didn't wake up too many neighbors. I let Ziggy out without seeing the shy kitten was under one of the chairs in the back yard. Hissing and yeowls ensued. The kitten quickly realized that 3 feet up in a tree was sufficient to get away from Ziggy. Being reminded that she's an old lady by him sitting there looking down on her didn't make things better. But no one got hurt and the kitten was back at the front door within minutes. All part of the getting to know you process, I suppose. 🙄😾🐈 She's been in this spot for half an hour now.

Happy Friday! Rabbit, my goofball, and the completion of Puzzle #6. And with that, puzzle season comes to a close. Back to work! 😉 Mike described this as a very weird room - complete with hybrid dragon/dragonflies and very fancy horses. We blame the rabbit wizard in the lower left, just above the dragon eating a blue apple.

Puzzle number 5 was completed last night, mostly by my hubby. 🤗 He saved the weirdest piece for last.

Puzzle number 5. Crazy shapes in this one. When Mike saw it, he noted this one should slow down puzzle season progress. 😉

Puzzle #4 is in progress... Next level puzzle work - the piece you are looking for may be under a cat. 🐱 This one is from Rannae and Rob.
