too cute to pass up - I don't think this was quite what we looked like at work today, but it surely wasn't too far of

had a wonderful evening at the Black History Month Event for work! Mike and I joined the group at the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library (http://aarl.denverlibrary.org/) at 24th &Welton in downtown Denver, 5 pm tour. It was awesome! We had a wonderful tour of their museum area - so much local history, so lovingly presented. We learned a lot. Afterwards, we tried Cleatz in Northfield for dinner.... the service was terrible (seriously, don't go there) but the company couldn't be beat! so glad we went. http://aarl.denverlibrary.org/

I used this picture from Bruichladdich on Islay (one of the western islands in Scotland) for the background of my title page. might as well just turn it in - nothing I say after that will matter. *grin*

edays fireworks! They started half an hour early, but we were able to watch most of it from the hill. If you don't have 11 minutes, be sure to fast forward to the grand finale!
Diana Mann - hope you feel better soon! sorry you missed it!

some of you probably remember chatting with us about this web page: http://mksanders.com/2011pics/firepit_ponderings.html and today we finished the project! Bought a firepit that has both gas and wood inserts. We plan to try it out tonight.

playing tourist - I stopped by the WorldView-3 satellite's clean room with some coworkers before it was shipped off to the launch site. (It's the next satellite for Digital Globe). No, I don't have Bill Bensler on a short leash, though a lot of people have noted it looks that way. - with @[5141866:2048:Sophia Wells], @[1369587298:2048:Kristi Crutchfield Beshears], @[917357:2048:Greg Thanavaro]

Congratulations to my hubby - he will be teaching the Electronic Properties of Materials class in the spring (and again in 2016). and congratulations to Mines! Hate to lose Meyer Hall, but it's time.... after all, it was one of the buildings Mike went to school in. Hill Hall better watch out - all the others have fallen.

16th wedding anniversary! Time flies.....it doesn't feel like 16 years. Looking forward to many more!

the other excitement of the day was peppers! Here's a collection I got from a coworker @[601675218:2048:Nick Craft]) ... it's been quite a week for fresh food - peaches, pepper, and our neighbor gave us fresh cucumbers and home-made zucchini bread.

We went to the Ball holiday party at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science last night - it was great!
We enjoyed seeing people we knew and Mike got to meet a few new coworkers he has heard a ton about. We found a number of people we know hiding out in the gem and mineral section - always a great choice!
Mike looked great for the event - I took his picture when we got home so he would have a new head shot for the school and work sites.
Timeline photos

... I took Mike's picture while standing on a chair, since they don't come out as nicely when he is staring down at the camera. He decided he would also take a picture while standing on the chair, and got a pun'kin....

Profile pictures

awwww..... cute collection of pictures including some of our faves. but Facebook has been reminding us of cats. cute picture of Braveheart here, the cover picture for Mike's year was of Chloe.....we miss them both! :( Cirrus and Muggins will probably be like "what is with you? stop hugging me!"

Dec 24, 2014 8:40:22 am

*whew* that was close. I am getting going on wrapping some presents and ALMOST put bows on them.....luckily, I remembered just in time that my dear Cirrus is a bow eater. (and he was sitting quietly watching me like "yes, put bows on all the presents. lots of bows on every present. wait - why are you putting them away?)

Dec 19, 2014 4:36:03 pm

long week - proposaling is in full swing for a proposal due on Jan 9th (final cost volume due the 23rd - multi-phase delivery). worked almost 50 hours already this week, more tomorrow morning. ...which was hard on the cats because Mike was in California! Mike went to northern California this week for a business trip. It went very well - he got all his accounts and training, and even had time to visit the jelly belly factory! Looking forward to seeing him tonight.

Dec 19, 2014 4:34:13 pm

had a lovely dinner with my hubby and my parents to celebrate my dad's bday today. :) working on Christmas cards before Mike goes on his business trip - 63% done! (yes, he does sign his own name on everything.)

Dec 08, 2014 9:50:07 pm
had a wonderful time at the triple birthday party at Jos O' Sheas tonight - for my dad, Mike's dad, and Uncle Dale. Dale's pretty lucky Terry doesn't have a facebook account - after razzing the balloon animal guy, he found himself doing the chicken dance in a pair of butterfly wings with a pink kitty kat scepter. Never harass the balloon animal guy.
Dec 04, 2014 9:35:15 pm

I'm not getting sick. I'm not getting sick. Does being in denial help? I made it through the last proposal without getting sick, but I don't think I'll make it through proposal #2. throat and eyes have been on fire all day, which is problematic because I really don't have a backup on the proposal (my workshare has actually grown this week). better get back to the mantra.... I'm not getting sick.

Dec 02, 2014 7:24:18 pm

had a very lovely movie date with my hubby - we went to see Rosewater. It was very very well done. I'm very glad I finished the electric zoo yesterday - sunny and 64 deg yesterday, 19 deg and blowing snow today.
Nov 30, 2014 5:48:35 pm

This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for too many things to list... but I'll mention 2 highlights. I am thankful my brother and Princess found each other, because they seem so happy together. (I'm looking forward to meeting Priness in December!) and I am thankful our fraidy cat Muggins has found his voice. They snuggle and they fight like brothers. It used to be when I heard Cirrus' low rumble... mrrrrr... in another room, it was followed by Muggins hiding somewhere. Now, I hear mrrr....meew (Muggins has a high-pitched meow)...mrrr....meew...mrrrrr...meew. It's good to hear him stick up for himself. :)

Nov 27, 2014 8:57:51 am

GO BRONCOS! Chili is on the stove, game is on, Mike has his traditional orange snack.

Nov 23, 2014 2:26:11 pm

Cirrus has a lesson learned for the day - the problem with using Muggins as a pillow is that sometimes your pillow gets up an walks away. :)

Nov 23, 2014 9:25:34 am

Christmas lights are on the roof! Besides being a bit windy, it's 60 degrees and partly sunny in Golden today - as good as it gets for putting up lights. So, Mike went on the roof to hang the lights and put covers on the fans. Some of the snow I said shouldn't be up there any more got thrown at me. ;) cause there was still snow on the shady parts of the roof. Overall, it was a successful trip, but we won't turn the lights on until after Thanksgiving.
Nov 22, 2014 1:19:43 pm

enjoyed seeing my parents this evening - we had dinner in their newly re-done dining room. It's nice!
Nov 21, 2014 9:15:19 pm

with a very heavy heart, I dropped off Braveheart's carrier at the Foothills Animal Shelter :( ....since he was a big cat, I had bought the next size up so he could be comfortable. So, I figured it might work better for a small dog than one of the residents of the Cat Care Society. Hope someone can use it.
Nov 21, 2014 11:16:07 am

aww, Muggins was worried I wouldn't have enough to do on my day off, so he puked on the bed while I was at my physical. Mike cleaned it up, laundry is underway to finish the job. *sigh* I still love the cats, though. They're adorable. (Muggins is sitting in the middle of the living room looking so sad. If everyone could do an irresistible "I'm sorry" look like that, there'd be peace on earth)
Nov 21, 2014 9:51:04 am

what a week! It was great to be done proposaling on Monday - I got to be back with my usual pals in cubeville and was happy to be on a normal schedule! (but wasn't completely done - did some lessons learned write-ups from home on Tuesday night) Yesterday, we went to dinner and the Janes Addiction concert with Shawn and Malia Kirby. Lots of fun!
It was so nice to see them again, and they have agreed to join us for the Fete du Bordeaux event in January! The Janes Addiction concert was for the 25th anniversary of their album, Nothing's Shocking. 25 years? (la la la la can't hear you. don't want to believe it's been 25 years.
That was an album I was actually familiar with before I met Mike.....) Extra bonus - for dinner last night, we went to Beau Jeau's in Arvada for the Cat Care Society fundraiser and we saw the Anderson-Tidd family! Jarl and Christy are still getting things settled in their new house.
Their son, Daniel, says his room is too large, but he doesn't want to share it with Mike. Daniel told Mike that he wouldn't want to share his room because it's um.... dark, and um, cold, and outside! Mike was surprised his new room was so terrible, but ok, in that case he won't go over to his house to share it with him.
I came home early today because I wasn't feeling that well. The cats tucked me in for an hour and a half nap. I woke up feeling better (and hungry! definitely feeling better post-snack) So, now it's time to start the weekend! I love flex time!
Nov 20, 2014 4:00:01 pm

It's neat to be in touch with the previous owner of our cats. He loves all the stories and pictures, and he has nifty nuggets of info. From today's email, it looks like I can only expect moderate improvement in Muggins' fraidy cat state.
Regarding Sunday's panic, Hank says

"I don't remember the guys panicking during power outages (and they were frequent in the Canyon) but Muggins always hid beneath a chair when there was thunder. If the noise was far off he was okay but let there be a good, close clap and he was gone. Funny to see him, of course, thinking he was hidden when he was easy to see. " Nov 17, 2014 5:27:44 pm

Mike is making progress on the bathroom project. He has gotten the door rails and shower tiles all cleaned up, and I think he found a mixture of grout cleaner he is happy with.
Right now, he is re-doing the caulking with the plan of re-installing the shower doors. (easier to use the grout cleaner when you can spray water o the tiles without worrying about it getting all over the bathroom)
Nov 16, 2014 7:43:44 pm

starting work on Thanksgiving cards.... I guess it could be worse, it could be time to start Christmas cards. *sigh* where did this year go?
Nov 16, 2014 3:06:54 pm

jingle bells, jingle bells..... I came in from shopping singing to Mike as I presented him with a Kilchoman gift set (that includes 2 Kilchoman scotch glasses) and an Ardbeg gift set (which also includes 2 glasses!
they're pretty cool little glasses) He asked if this was with his Christmas and birthday gift cards he had forgotten about. Well, maybe..... ;)
Nov 16, 2014 3:06:10 pm

hello, winter. I wasn't ignoring you, there was no need to get so dramatic. :)
Our power went out about 5:30 am this morning. There are xcel trucks working on Ford Street, and we have our whole house generator going.
Everything is fine - except for 2 panicked cats. Muggins is in a ball behind the couch, and Cirrus was pacing around yowling. I tried to explain to my poor traumatized cat that this was not a repeat of the natural disaster that left him homeless last year....
the message is kinda sorta starting to sink in after many snuggles and Mike and I getting back to our normal routine in the study.
Nov 16, 2014 9:35:04 am

elk roast is in the crock pot for tonight - thanks Bella Sanders! We really enjoyed the steak earlier in the week and are looking forward to the roast tonight. :)
Nov 15, 2014 9:34:58 am

*whew* I gave it all I had to give. The proposal is done! I hear the competition was somewhat scant - this one must have been as hard for others as it was for us
... but we delivered a darn good proposal today. Announcement of winners is supposed to be Jan 30th - *fingers crossed*
Mike on the other hand, still has some energy and decided to take on fixing the grout and caulking in the shower - including completely disassembling the shower doors.
Nov 14, 2014 6:13:06 pm

feeling like I am fighting off the creeping crud.... Mike and I went out for a nice dinner at Ali Baba's so I didn't have to cook,
and I took an almost 2-hour nap afterward. here's hoping I fight off whatever it is. still hav a few more days of proposaling to get through.
Nov 09, 2014 9:33:52 pm

many thanks to Ann Deml for a lovely evening on Saturday - she made dinner and pie for a group of friends and we went to see the "Anything Goes"
musical at Fairview High School. It was excellent! really enjoyed it all :)
Nov 09, 2014 9:16:23 am

proposaling worked out well today - got up at 5:11 am (love my digital alarm clock - it lets me be a total geek on wake up times),
at work by 6:30 am. But the writing party with our teammates went very well, and we broke for the day at 4 pm. more tomorrow morning,
but it looks like I will get the afternoon off.
Mike and I watched Inception during dinner - good movie! I enjoyed it. Muggins....not so much. car chases and gunfire are scary.
Cirrus was lounging on the couch like "dude, it's not real".... but Muggins went into hiding by the coffee table anyhow.
Nov 07, 2014 9:07:31 pm

In shocking news from the study, the pictures from our trip to Japan last year are actually being transferred to the ftp site.
No promises on when I actually post web pages for them all, but I figured I'd let you know there is hope.
Nov 06, 2014 9:19:44 pm

very happy to have a lull in the proposal action before having to work this weekend! home early - bothering the cats and putting away Halloween decorations.
(and bothering the cats by putting away Halloween decorations. Muggins says boxes are scary... )
Nov 05, 2014 4:24:51 pm

zzzz... huh? yes, I did have a good weekend. proposal work today and yesterday, Bob Dylan concert with my hubby and my dad Saturday night with a nice dinner with my parents beforehand,
and Katrina's first birthday party. so tired - I have a 7 am meeting tomorrow, not quite sure I'll be awake. ;)
Nov 02, 2014 8:55:34 pm

*whew* sick cats and carpets don't go well together. spent two hours cleaning carpets in the laundry room, hall, and dining room.
Muggins and Cirrus think the rug cleaner is the most terrible thing ever - louder than a vacuum and it makes everything wet.
Muggins spent the entire time hiding behind the couch and Cirrus has been giving me a piece of his mind. There's been much merping and merfing.
Oct 24, 2014 8:37:51 pm

Muggins and Cirrus did not like that I kept their vet apt this morning (follow-up tests for proteins in urine), but are enjoying watching the Broncos game with Mike.
We also got some good news today - their sisters were adopted!
Oct 23, 2014 9:32:53 pm

Tonight, Cirrus and Muggins learned that when I'm upset, I clean. and clean. and clean. Cirrus gave up on following me and has been sitting on the couch watching me.
Oct 22, 2014 9:35:18 pm

sad day. We lost our buddy Braveheart to a tumor on his pancreas. Such a sweetheart. He will be greatly missed.
Oct 22, 2014 6:48:56 pm

I spent an hour with Braveheart this morning. He had a lot to say, so he got scritches and snuggles before we did his meds, breakfast, and fluids. He still won’t eat or drink on his own, but otherwise seems ok. Right now, he is snuggled up to Mike on the bed, and is very purry. time to head to work....
Oct 21, 2014 6:29:43 am

When we adopted the cats, I was asked by a lot of people if I really wanted to adopt senior cats, and my thought was "no one should have to die in the shelter". I didn't expect that to be tested so quickly. My poor buddy Braveheart has cancer (they did an ultrasound today since he still wasn't eating). It's hard to say how long he has with us. The vet said the sepsis infection and urinary tract infection is getting notably better with the new antibiotics. His belly has a lot of fluid in it that has round cancer cells. Right now, he's home, snuggled up with a power strip. (his spot of the day) :( :( *sniff*
Oct 17, 2014 9:20:16 pm

Cirrus and Muggins seems to be adjusting well to the sounds of the new Borderlands.....
Oct 16, 2014 8:18:37 pm

I am stylin' with my 1980's style pager. (Mike saw it and said "Excuse me - I need to find a pay phone.") .... it's actually the recording device for my pH probe, which I will wear until Saturday afternoon. We're doing this just to make sure some of my asthma symptoms aren't actually acid reflux (since I failed my asthma test....I had been warned to study, but I didn't ;) ). Many thanks to my parents for their help - they made pulled pork for us and my dad took me in for the procedure so Mike could go to work.
Oct 16, 2014 4:38:03 pm

fussing over Braveheart, and he is not appreciating it all. ;) Poor guy is still not feeling well. We had to take him off his antibiotics because they seemed to be making him sick (not eating). Mike took him in for fluids and anti-nausea meds on Monday. He spent the day at the vet today - they were able to get him to eat a little, and did a bunch of tests. He seems to have a urinary tract infection as well as pancreatitis. He's not going to be much of a buddy for me over the next weeks - it comes with quite a regimen. 2 different antibiotics, appetite stimulant. poor guy.
Oct 14, 2014 8:51:19 pm

oops.... After 20 years, I guess one starts getting forgetful? Saturday was 21 years that Mike and I have been together. I owe him T-Wa's. :)
Oct 13, 2014 8:14:14 pm

life with 3 cats = finding yourself saying "do not stalk your brother".... not that Cirrus would listen. Muggins was sitting in the dining room looking around. Cirrus got low, stalked over to a pile of Halloween candy and baby shower gifts, crouch, pounce! Right over all the stuff. Poor Muggins. No wonder he's a fraidy cat.
Oct 12, 2014 12:24:15 pm

Many thanks to Tim Jochum and Becky for a lovely dinner last night! Good food, good company, and cute cats! What more can I ask for? also, thanks to my parents (Linda and Tony Rawluk ) for a nice lunch at BW3s today!
Oct 11, 2014 2:12:58 pm

3 cats = 3 times the cuteness! We have a blanket monster. Be careful of lumps in our bed - one of them might be Cirrus. He has decided it is awesome to sleep all the way under the blanket.
Oct 11, 2014 8:09:48 am

feeling accomplished - - I got my beloved fraidy cat, Muggins, to play for a second. I had one of the string toys without the scary jingle bell moving quietly and slowly on the carpet - he stalked it, ran up, batted it, retreated in terror and continued watching.

Oct 10, 2014 4:55:50 pm

*sigh* home early! My hubby laughed at me when I got home because I told him I thought the speed recorded on a ticket I got on the way home was an exaggeration. ;)

Oct 10, 2014 1:50:47 pm

big day here - I am taking the boys to the vet for a checkup at 9 am. We're also part of the Golden solar tour from 9 - 4. Apparently, it's getting lot of attention - so maybe 250 people here to hear about our system? Mike will be the reluctant tour guide....we'll see how this goes.

Oct 04, 2014 7:32:16 am

My cat eats tissues. To each his own, I suppose.
Oct 02, 2014 3:28:19 pm

had a lovely dinner at 3 Sons - in part thanks to a gift certificate that Linda and Tony Rawluk gave me about 4 years ago ( found it while doing some fall cleaning, thank goodness for no expiration dates!). Came home to find that Braveheart discovered the study chair. :) It is, after all, a cat chair at the end of my desk.

Sep 28, 2014 7:35:45 pm

big weekend of visits for the cats! My parents came over for dinner last night (have cute pictures, will post). Suellen, from the Cat Care Society, stopped by to visit them. She left just a few minutes ago. Cirrus and Muggins were interested in visiting, I took pictures on the camera she brought with her. Braveheart came out for a few minutes before going back under the bed. (Today's a big win for the big boy - we've been keeping the bedroom door closed, but he managed to secure his position under the bed and has been refusing to give it up. but he'll get kicked out before I go to bed because the three of them like to pace and talk through most of the night.)

Sep 28, 2014 4:49:39 pm

Happy Friday! It's been a good afternoon - got home early, had lunch with my hubby, told tales of the cats to the shelter worker who had cared for them. She said she's been crying all week, but is happy they are in a good home. She had been worrying that Braveheart was starting to get depressed in the shelter, because he had been withdrawing and moping so much. She'll be here Sunday evening to visit with them.
Sep 26, 2014 4:50:25 pm

got a letter instructing me to pick out my 5 years of service gift at work. *sigh* That would be great, if I didn't also have 13 years at other companies. time flies. In other news, Cirrus, Muggins, and Braveheart are doing great. Cirrus owns the place (my little tissue thief), his two brothers have been venturing out from behind the couch more often.
Sep 22, 2014 9:14:46 pm

it's the beginning of a big fuzzy adventure. We adopted 3 cats yesterday - 14/15 year old brothers named Braveheart, Cirrus, and Muggins. Everyone is settling in ok - details and pictures to come.
Sep 21, 2014 8:33:52 am

home early! nuff said :)
Sep 18, 2014 3:35:55 pm

Go Broncos!
Sep 14, 2014 2:23:47 pm

busy day - This afternoon, we went to look at cats at the cat care society. There are some contenders there, but we haven't made a selection yet. I actually went clothes shopping for work this morning (and bought new sneakers to replace the ones with the holes in them). Happy news - I can fit into Dress Barn's size 14 pants, jeans and slacks. They're a little snug, but I told Mike I think the goldfish theory applies to me - give me too much room and I will grow to fit my surroundings. :) and I made chili. headed to work tomorrow to build up some flex time for Thursday and Friday afternoon appointments. I am really looking forward to this being the last week I need to do that for a while!
Sep 13, 2014 8:36:33 pm

well, there you go - more pictures! SharePoint won't let me check out documents via remote access, so I will have to do reviews while physically at work tomorrow.
Sep 13, 2014 8:26:32 am

Hello, fall! It's been a long, tiring week, and it's ending on a crisp note! Woke up to find the heat running and a touch of snow on the neighbors' roof.
Sep 12, 2014 6:16:32 am

Labor Day is one of those weird holidays where I have the day off and Mike has to go to work. He's up at the lab now - I am going to do my best to get through some of my to-do list. Some of it, mind you - it is, after all, my day off. :)
Sep 01, 2014 9:57:10 am

odd time of year for a hail storm - at least it was quick and the hail was very small. The weather has been quite unusual this summer.

(as evidenced by the fact that I still have moss growing between the patio stones in the back yard, when we're supposed to be a "high plains desert")
Aug 31, 2014 4:21:43 pm

had a lovely lunch with my hubby and Diana Mann at Buffalo Wild Wings! I am looking forward to the Halloween/post-Halloween party for Diana's great bathroom unveiling! very curious to see how it turns out (no pressure, but seriously - time to finish the project :) )
Aug 31, 2014 1:39:58 pm

enjoyed Fish and Micki's housewarming party last night - their new house is in a very nice neighborhood in Englewood, and Max seems to enjoy his new yard immensely. We also found out their to-be Christmas baby will be a boy!

too bad we had to leave so early - hopefully, Fish will get much enjoyment out of the whiskey we left! I've been absolutely exhausted lately. I moved up my endocrinologist appt to the 12th and had blood work done yesterday. Hopefully, it is as simple as re-adjusting the thyroid meds.
Aug 31, 2014 10:13:49 am

*sigh* pin interest - a database run amuck. I signed up for an account to communicate with my career coach on possible work styles, hair styles, etc.
During the pin interest tour, I had to pin something. so I picked a cute picture of a rabbit. Every week since, pin interest sends me emails with pictures of rabbits in case I want to pin more. :)
Aug 28, 2014 8:07:10 pm

The heat came on in my car this morning - I had to double-check the date. It's August 26th, right? I love fall and spring.
Hopefully, this is a sign of a long fall, and not an early winter! :)
Aug 26, 2014 8:20:47 pm

"Your dreams may vary from those of Globex corporation, its subsidiaries, and its shareholders"
- - my favorite Simpsons episode - "You Only Move Twice"
Aug 24, 2014 1:11:26 pm

we're still enjoying the Simpson's marathon.... love the Hulabalooza episode. Things like
"Somebody ordered an orchestra, possibly while high.. Cyprus Hill, I'm looking in your direction..." ,
"And to think, Smithers, you laughed at me when I bought Ticketmaster - no one will ever pay a 100% service fee."
"It does ensure a healthy mix of the rich and the ignorant, Sir." :)

had a very lovely evening with Jarl Anderson, Christy Tidd, Daniel, and Katrina. They came over for Christy's birthday (belated) and to watch the Dr Who season opener.
Katrina is so close to walking! She definitely seems very motivated to make it happen. and I got two parties in one night!
After visiting for a while, I took Daniel next door. Our neighbors were having a party with a bunch of kids from the neighborhood around his age. He had a great time, I got to chat with the neighbors, and Jarl, Mike and Christy actually got to watch Dr Who - a win all around!
Aug 23, 2014 10:48:49 pm

you know you're a homeowner when.... the excitement of the day was sewer liners! After years of dealing with nearly annual backups due to tree roots in the main line, the city has finally cleaned out all the roots and installed a liner! *fingers crossed* hopefully, this means we won't have to worry about cleaning out tree roots any more.
Aug 20, 2014 6:20:12 pm

120 lbs of palisade peaches! (picked up from the Golden Rotary club this morning)
Most of them have already found their rightful owners. They look good - I think I am going to cut some up for the family dinner tonight.
Aug 16, 2014 9:46:14 am

had a lovely evening with my parents, bro, Uncle Leroy and Aunt Darcy yesterday. picking up my cousin and her hubby at the train this morning.
Not sure what the plans are for the day, but I'm sure we'll come up with something fun!

In other news, my hubby is on the road to recovery. He had his follow-up appointment at the ENT yesterday, and he feels much better now that the stitches and splints have been removed from his nose.
He is enjoying being able to breathe! His throat still hurts like crazy - between the stitches on the palate and the stitches along the sides from the tonsils, he is still having trouble swallowing.
The good news is that this new diet plan has helped him lose over 10 pounds. (the bad news is it was all in the last week - poor guy)
Aug 15, 2014 7:38:27 am

bro got here from SoCal today - he had a good drive with his dogs (Whitney and Abbie). Saw he and my parents for dinner and a nice evening chat.

My hubby is still improving. He's getting 4-hour chunks of true respite from the recovery process where he can be functional or get some real sleep.
He's still only eating in little bits. Hops are still pinned on being through the worst of it by Thursday!
Aug 12, 2014 9:42:53 pm

I was falling asleep while studying for my CAM test tomorrow...went for a walk, got rained on (cold Colorado rain)...I'm awake now!

We had visitors today - thanks to my parents (Linda and Tony Rawluk) for stopping by and bringing stuff, and to Mike's mom Gwenn Sanders) for bringing the cards Maddie and Val made. If they draw everyone so nice and thin, sign me up for a portrait! :) (with Rannae Sanders Lyon)

Mike is doing better than yesterday. His palate is healing well, just in time for his tonsils (or lack thereof) to start their healing process.
They're the ones causing the pain now... we hear it's supposed to be days 4 - 7, so hopefully it will clear up by Thursday.
He also has an appointment on Thursday to get the splints out of his nose, which should also help. But as Mike said, "Thursday is a long time away."
Aug 10, 2014 4:01:47 pm

Tae Bo is still kicking my butt... but I did lose 2 1/2 pounds this week, so I must be hanging in there just well enough for it to count.
Aug 09, 2014 3:59:57 pm

Mike is sleeping on and off today - not being able to breath through his mouth or his nose has made it difficult to get any sleep.
I've been going about things on my to do list that are more quiet - - but now I got to "study for CAM test on Monday".
darn - not nearly as fun as posting stuff on the web site or ironing curtains. I have an oral exam for the final piece of my Ball Cost Account Manager certification on Monday - it's a mock interview similar to the ones customers do at the start of a contract.
Aug 09, 2014 11:28:15 am

Mike took another dose of pain meds and is ready for some real food! (he had scrambled eggs for breakfast and ice cream for lunch)
I am boiling potatoes for mashed potatoes to go with the meatloaf I made yesterday. :) He seems to be recovering very well.
Aug 08, 2014 4:38:19 pm

Many thanks to Gwenn Sanders for Mike-sitting today - he had his ENT surgery for sleep apnea: fix a deviated septum, remove tonsils, reshape the soft palate.
The latter is what is bothering him the most right now - it's very painful for him to swallow. but everything went well, and he should recover just fine.
The first few days are supposed to be the worst for the palate, and days 4 - 7 are supposed to be the worst for the tonsils. After that, he should be on his way to feeling better.
Aug 07, 2014 5:08:27 pm

life at work - telecons: meeting lead asks "Does everyone have the number now?" .... pause.... snicker....
someone else replies "How would they answer?" :)
Aug 07, 2014 5:03:06 pm

To quote Homer Simpson - "so long, stink town!"
The long-awaited vanity top is here, and my dad is coming over this afternoon to help Mike install our new bathroom sink.
We never quite figured out why the old one would develop such an odor, but soon it won't matter.
Aug 02, 2014 8:53:13 am

Jarl Anderson and Christy Tidd - hope you guys are having a very happy anniversary!
Aug 01, 2014 7:08:08 pm

enjoying my day off! (flex time from some long days) I've been catching up on reading the Wall Street Journal, catching up on LinkedIn,
and just got my butt kicked by Tae Bo. I've been trying to work out more - thanks to my beloved thyroid meds - and felt like I had conquered my "Billy's Favorite Moves"
DVD enough to move up to the next step - the full Tae Bo DVD. made it through the first 20 minutes. *whew* better luck tomorrow.
I think my "Billy's Boot Camp" DVD will be sitting on the shelf for some time still. It's a goal.... :)
Aug 01, 2014 10:16:40 am

had a lovely dinner at Malone's with my hubby and my parents. :)
Jul 26, 2014 9:35:37 pm

*whew* long week, but a good one! had an awesome Starship Trooper movie night party on Saturday, saw Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden at Red Rocks on Monday, got tons done for my regular project and work, working on one proposal, getting involved with another, had a potentially fruitful meeting on Wednesday with a vice president at work re getting involved with the Strategic Management organization (would be a good use of the MBA!), enjoyed seeing Diana and Tim while in Broomfield, and had a good meeting with a career coach today. She is going to help me polish up my "manager" image a little in order to be a better fit with my desired career direction. Needless to say, my poor hubby has watched me go to bed super early most of the week -hopefully, I'll be better company this weekend! :)
had a lovely evening with my parents last night. They came over for dinner - grilled salmon, smoked chicken, salad, asparagus, potatoes. and they visited until about 10:30 - we had a nice fire on the patio. It was very enjoyable - except for the part when a bird pooped on my mom's head, but it cleaned up ok and she borrowed one of my hubby's hats to protect against further attacks.
We picked up a book at Barnes and Noble for a book club at work - I think I need to improve my reputation with their database. It gave me a receipt that said - - You might also like: Force under Pressure, Beauty Bites Beast, Sharpening the Warrior's Edge, Without Conscience
I had convinced myself earlier this afternoon that what I wanted to do was work out (Billy Banks DVD :) ) and update Quicken. Staring at this pile of receipts, I am not sure "want" was the proper description......
PALISADE PEACHES! I am planning to order a 35 lb box of Colorado peaches from the Golden Rotary. They're the best! freezable, snackable, cookable large peaches. $35 per 35 lb box, and I will pick them up at the Jeffco Fairgrounds on the morning of Saturday, Aug 16th. If there is anyone local who would also like to order a box, let me know! I can give you the info or pick one up for you and you can pay me back.
My parents are on their way to Golden! They stayed just outside of Dallas last night.
I have an awesome hubby! (and he has awesome parents) Our neighbor found a table on craiglist - lovely real wood dining room table with a leaf for $300.The catch? Pick it up in Nederland, near the lake with the frozen dead guy. So, he borrowed his dad's truck, drove 45-50 minutes each way from Golden to Nederland to get the table, and then set it up in her dining room. :)
From 90 degrees to 62 degrees - gotta love a good thunderstorm! (especially since the hail missed us)
Diana Mann - great to see you for lunch today! I decided a little fresh air might help my cold, and I found my beloved ash tree has the same bores! aaargh! Removal appointment requested with Schulhoff. *sigh*
enjoyed the Golden 4th of July fireworks - we watched them from the intramural fields at Mines - the city now shoots the fireworks off from the same spot as Mines uses for edays....and we felt similarly threatened but baseball sized chunks of ember falling on the street in front of us (which means it was perfect!)
ugh - stupid cold. I picked up a cold in Alaska, and it just won't quit. been a hurting puppy over the last 8-10 hours, but I don't think it's contagious at the nearly 2-week point, so I'll head to work. I have part 4 of 6 of a certification class this afternoon. thank goodness for caffeine.
Last night, we had a great time at the Cherry Poppin' Daddies concert in Lodo (Denver). I joked that we applied 110% effort to dancing - 100% from me + 10% from Mike (and that's a lot for Mike). They didn't play much of their ska music - lots of swing, though! Also, their new tribute to the rat pack was really awesome. I laughed and told Mike "Hey - where's your New York blood?" He said he doesn't have any. *grin* Oh well. It was a great show and the Summit Music Hall is a great venue - looking forward to seeing Living Colour there this fall.
got back from Alaska this morning after a red eye flight where I think only our nieces got some sleep. We had a great trip, but I am glad to be home and super glad to be mosquito free!!!
things that make my hubby say "hmm" - while having a discussion tangent to a Dylan song, I informed him "few people appreciate flies like I do"
It's the kind of afternoon I love - cool, windy, and stormy. (yes, I mean that literally) Unfortunately, I messed it up by being sleepy, stretchy, and elbowing Mike in the forehead. He is not letting me live that one down. :)
had an awesome time hanging out with Diana Mann last night!
great day! We had a good time at Valerie's birthday party and enjoyed talking with everyone at Casey's graduation party. For some reason, that didn't tire me out enough, so I washed some carpets after we got home. half the living room and the hallway are done - it was very much needed. now it's time to enjoy a lovely Colorado night with my hubby on the patio!
Must be hard having to go to people's houses for your job. Our life insurance rep stopped by tonight, and the first thing she said when she walked in was "wow! I like your house. It smells so clean!"
enjoyed my bday lunch today - made better by my hubby being able to join us in Boulder. I certainly have some pretty awesome coworkers - thanks! - with Sophia Wells, Kristi Crutchfield Beshears, Greg Thanavaro
can't believe we're getting close to needing more buffalo! down to 27 lbs ground, 6 lbs stew meat, 4 roasts, 6 steaks, and one top sirloin. Last year, our half buffalo was 329 lb hanging weight - I know it's been enjoyed by many!
Today I am remembering Bill marching in Memorial Day parades (Bill Spence, WWII vet, awesome neighbor who was like a grandpa to me and my bro). I am thankful for all the military personnel I have known throughout my life and hope for peace for those they have known and lost during active duty. with Mike Rawluk
waiting for mulch. Maybe a watched-for mulch delivery doesn't arrive, and I need to find something totally engaging to do in order to conjure it up. :)
still loving my thyroid meds. Got to do 3 hours of weeding this evening without getting dizzy. :) (and I am sure I will pay for 3 hours of weeding in the am) Mike and I also enjoyed a glass of wine on the patio - looking forward to the meteor shower this weekend!
sad day - we found out our little fuzzerkin has a deadly virus (FIP). Nothing can be done but give her treats and hugs and love.

Xrays showed her lungs are filling with fluid and her liver is badly enlarged. They gave her a steroid shot to hopefully make her more comfortable.
Today is Flat Stanley's last day in Colorado! One month went by so fast
! I am going to post the pictures from this weekend and send him on his way with a CD documenting his adventures.
I don't know if it was all the love she got from Vanessa on Saturday or the threat of a vet appointment, but Chloe is feeling much better today. Maybe she's finally over the creeping crud
(cats can catch human viruses, she got sick after we did)
party clean up is just about done - time to start making chili for the Cinco de Mayo chili contest at work on Friday (as well as some for dinner with my bro on Wednesday!)
We are almost ready for the Mines party! We're expecting 18 people. Sauce is all ready to go. Mike did a great job of cleaning the patio, so there will be plenty of seating for dinner!
Good news from this week - Mike's new consulting job is going well! He recently signed a consulting contract with a local company who wants help designing and executing experiments on a piece of equipment he is familiar with from his PhD work. It's a separate gig from his post-doc work with the school. So far, so good! He said they are happy with the work he has done thus far.
sometimes one wakes up and hopes there is no meaning in dreams - holy murder and mayhem, batman! That's the last time I read the newspaper right before bed.
First two batches of sauce for next weekend's party with Mike's group at school are cooking on the stove. :) (This year, Ryan's baby daughter can't go up to altitude, so we're having dinner here instead of doing a group ski trip)
went to Edwards Meats to get stuff for Easter dinner - now my hair smells all smoky - tasty, tasty, smoke. They must make all their neighbors so hungry.
happy day! My new endocrinologist is wonderful! and so upbeat. We went over my blood tests, symptoms, changes in symptoms. He said I clearly had - and still have - a thyroid problem. He said all the trends point to that things are getting better, but he wants to return my thyroid levels to where they were before this whole mess started almost 20 years ago. So, to start, he's doubling my dose of thyroxin and we'll see where things are in 2 months. yay! I had given up hope on this - thank goodness my hubby has kept pushing me to find an answer...
had to chuckle at the juxtaposition of sound bites in Diablo.... as Mike started playing the game after dinner, a voice growled "death comes to all" just before one of the characters in town cheerfully said "Spend wisely!" So, there you have it - Diablo 3 wisdom -death comes to all, spend wisely! ;)
Since I was still sick on Monday, Mike helped entertain Flat Stanley (with Jason Fish)

http://mksanders.com/2014pics/FlatStanley.html#apr14
Thank goodness for sick time. Other than filling easter eggs, I've been pretty useless today.
sitting down to work on a proposal, still feeling like hell. There's a part of me that wishes I weren't so darn dependable and then there's a part of me that says "oh, for the love of...you're not dying, stop being so damn dramatic". :) of course, you guys know which voice always wins.
ugh. I was doing better yesterday than today. The bug l've had all week decided today is a new phase - painful sore throat day.
I may be under the weather, but I am apparently not as ill as my poor hubby. It's 80 deg in the study! He seems comfie playing diablo 3 in a long-sleeved shirt. poor guy has been running a fever all day :(
The first house project of 2014 is underway! It turns out that Almond Kohler has a brother - Cobalt Kohler, aka "Jimmy Ledges". Jimmy has a back story that I am not too clear on, but he will be here by ~ May 21st.
It's pout time in the Sanders household - I had the nerve to take Chloe outside with me to get the paper, but then to tell her that we were not going to go under the neighbors' cars. Mike is consoling her.....
recording receipts in Quicken... must've been a road trip, I feel like I have nothing but fuel receipts. but they tell their own story (if only for the comments I had to Quicken for Mike's amusement)
happy day! I got a letter from Regis with my official final transcript showing the completion of my degree. They said my diploma will arrive at the house within 3 weeks. Mike heard that the textbook he and Ryan have been working on has been accepted for publication by Wiley! They also want another edition of Ryan's Fuel Cell textbook, so I am sure Mike will have more fun scientific graphics work to do later this year.
had a wonderful time at our niece's 8th birthday tonight! (8th??!?)

I had looked at the jeans I bought for her and thought "those are going to be way big on Maddie - but the tag says they're the right size.... oh well, Rannae will sort it out" There was one old feeling Auntie Kari when Maddie held them up and they looked like they would fit just fine. Since when did she get so tall?
This is the first night where I feel a little lost without my MBA HW. Mike's at the Nuggets game, and don't get me wrong - I have plenty to do... wrapping birthday presents for our nieces (2 bdays this week!), catching up on bills & dishes, etc. I'm sure I'll get over it.
I feel bad about starting dinner prep - Mike and Chloe are passed out on the couch. the beets should be quiet.... I wonder if I can quietly make potatoes?
Chloe can't get enough of snuggling with Mike now that we're home and he is in his desk chair - unfortunately, her snuggles sometimes include sneezing in his ear. He still loves his cat, though
home from our road trip! We had a wonderful time - pictures and details to come.
To quote Kent Brockman from the SImpsons - "avoision, it's a word. Look it up!"
....ok, I am going to quit my "avoision" of organizing the Japan data. If you never see me again, know that I was swallowed by a black hole of over 1800 pictures plus several gb of movies......
had a good clothes day yesterday - bought smaller shorts (no more plus sizes!) and resurrected some clothes that had been banished to the basement for being too small. worked til 2 today and then came home - talked with my bro, took Chloe out for a walk in the lovely spring weather (my fave!) , and decided to follow up my good clothes day with working out. (insurance policy? I'm always worried resurrecting clothes is going to jinx progress) *whew* pretty tired right now.
re-set my alarm for a few extra minutes of sleep this morning after I realized I was falling back asleep while hugging my alarm to keep it quiet.
Soilwork and the elliptical - a match made in heaven. made it through my first day of my new "no seriously, I'm going to start working out in the evening" routine (album= Stabbing the Drama, was a gift from my bro)
went for a walk with Mike! It was great to have his company - reminded me of the nights we used to walk up the mesa to seven trees. It's a beautiful night in Golden - 58 deg, crisp clear air, bright moonlight, and lots of stars. and I got to see Orion. first thing I do at night is always to look for Orion.
thanks to everyone who helped celebrate the conclusion of my MBA work! I had a very nice pizza lunch at work on Friday, plus two great parties yesterday.
what a day! my event for work went very well. so grateful for all the great help I got - I couldn't have pulled it off without Jan, Julie, and Tami. grades were posted so I am officially done with my MBA (and have the paperwork I need to get my $2400 tuition refund!), had a great dinner with my hubby at Jose O'Sheas, and got stuff done for the parties on Saturday. *whew* almost time for bed
making Lasagna for Saturday night and listening to NIN's Broken. happy I have no homework to do!
hmmm... trying to make award certificates for an event I am co-hosting at work on Thursday. (Women's history month event) so many templates - how come none of them strike me as good? *sigh*
I still think the wayback machine is too cool. Here are all their archives of our site, since 1999: http://web.archive.org/web/20140104132700/http://mksanders.com/
relaxing and working on the web site.... yes, you have been warned
woo hoo! 12 hours of sleep! I had weather delays on the flight back Sunday night, didn't get to bed til 4 am eastern time, slept 6 hours & went to work. and I felt utterly thrashed all week. Mike took me out to dinner to celebrate my MBA... had half a bottle of wine, pretty much went home & went to sleep. for 12 hours. feelin' much better today!
and with this file submission, I complete my MBA! All done! You guys can all celebrate now - - you have infinite credit in surviving facebook posts about my homework!
really frustrated that my teacher is so behind on posting grades. Anything submitted on Feb 16 through present hasn't been graded. Grades are due Wednesday, buddy, and I need it posted in order to get reimbursed for $2400 in tuition from my company! Serious business.
I have one thing left to do for my MBA - my final presentation for the fake B&B in Scotland. I started working on the outline but then decided the key to success was finally converting all our Scotland pictures from 2008 to web size so I can use some in the presentation. :)
wishing Hailey and Mark the best of luck! Looks like their son should be born in the next day!
weirdness - this is the actual, for real, last week of my MBA. Discussion posts done, just have to do my required replies and my final power point presentation.
had a good trip to Florida - the weekend worked out as well as one could have hoped. The service for Michele's father was very nice, very emotional. He was a wonderful person and will be forever missed. I enjoyed getting to visit with my parents, Michele, Loki, and their kids. Many thanks go to my parents for the effort they expended to help facilitate it all.
decided the problem with writing today was insufficient caffeine.... may have overdone it a tad. The good news is that I am writing more. The bad news is I am probably no longer a good judge of whether it is at all coherent. weeeeee
came home early - my heart wasn't into work today. going to try to get my Week 7 paper done, instead. amidst meows from someone fuzzy who thinks my plans should be focused on her. came home in time to take Mike to school - he is teaching Ryan's class this morning... well, being a hatchet man. His job today is to turn back the mid-terms and explain why everyone did so poorly. ;)
I am thankful - thankful my parents were able to be with Michele and Loki on Monday and that they got me flights for attending the services in Florida
Our thoughts are with my friend, Michele, and her family tonight. So sad for the sudden and untimely loss of her father - he will be missed.
so much cuteness! Chloe is flopped in the hallway, cleaning her belly fuzz. Her technique includes rolling back and forth as she goes from spot to spot. Roll to the right side, clean, roll to the left side, clean. The net effect is that she is slowly rolling down the hall.
I think my professor is wise to my points-til-graduation count down ways. He hasn't posted grades in over 2 weeks. *sigh*
worked today to make up some hours - but got a lot done, so it's all good. Caught up on discussion posts for my class. I could start working on this week's paper, but I think I hear some dirty dishes calling my name. I'm sure I'll be more motivated to work on it tomorrow.
had an awesome time with my hubby and Jarl at the Pixies concert tonight! They did an awesome job - lots of faves in the set..... and it was a long show! Mike counted 37 songs. The Fillmore turned the lights on during the last song in an attempt to get everyone (including the Pixies) to leave.
I now have a random twitter follower from New Hampshire (in addition to the local chapter Program Management Institute).... no idea what these folks think I am going to do. who knows - maybe I'll be like silent bob... not say much and then utter something I think is clever.... that few people, if anyone, gets.
Every once in a while, one of my classmates says something great. So, I must give credit to where credit is due and share - cause this one made me smile. For one of my discussion posts last week, I had to post on an example of CSR or social entrepreneurship that I identified with closely. I posted about how we only hear one side of the Howard Hughes story - no one ever seems to highlight how he was ahead of his times in terms of accommodating the physical needs of employees or all the great work performed by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, which he founded in 1953. I provided a lot of details I'll skip here - but I got this reply:

"What an interesting look into the heart of a man that I knew little about. It's sad that his mental illness is what seems to have defined him for much of the public, when he clearly had altruistic intentions toward his employees and society as a whole. I had read about his accommodations of employees with different needs, but I knew nothing about the medical research."
the countdown continues.... goodbye Week 5 of 8. I've now completed 60% of the points for the class - not quite enough to declare victory on passing & graduating, but I am getting darn close.
woke up at 7 am for no reason...trying to get rolling on this week's paper. The term-long project is a thought experiment on opening a Bed & Breakfast in Scotland. but not just any B&B - it has to incorporate sustainability and social entrepreneurship. sure, whatever. This week's paper is on the initiatives and metrics I will used at the B&B - and they have to be different than whatever I wrote about last week. hmmmm
I have been slacking on the homework front this week - work stuff to do Monday night; Super awesome Bordeaux party downtown with Mike, Diana, Jarl, and Christy Tuesday night; an insatiable desire to do housework instead of homework last night. So, I came home feeling a little under the gun. ....only to find my classmates are totally phoning it in this week. I should be able to match their level of effort and get my discussion posts done by bed time tonight. (they're due tonight) In the story of not needing to outrun the bear, only your companions, I suppose I can say "thank goodness for my companions!"
well, that game wasn't much fun.. and the commercials were bad, too! better times ahead
week 4 paper has been submitted! 4 weeks left in my MBA program.... not that I am counting down or anything.
We had a fun and lively dinner with Diana this evening - yummy, yummy Sherpa House!
*warm fuzzy* I posted an illustrative story in one of my discussion post replies, and someone just referenced it in another post. So someone does bother to read all the crap I write for my class! ... and even finds it worth remembering. *grin*
today feels like a Friday! too bad it's a Thursday..... hello, snow storm? little help?
Mike's worried I am trying to depress him... I played Type O Negative and followed it with Bowie's Outside. I told him that I didn't want to put him in some sort of chipper shock by going from Type O' Negative to something like zydeco. ;>) but all's well here. Mike is working on the Jackson Pollock puzzle and as you can see, I am clearly doing my homework! (homework = facebook, right?)
resisting the urge to pick on the same dude 2 weeks in a row. Another inane discussion post, at least this one wasn't half from Wikipedia. *sigh*
Week 3 assignment submitted! 5 more weeks of homework left. Mike and I determined last night that, of the 20 years we've been together, at least one of us has been in school for 17 of them....and the last such break was in 2001. really looking forward to the change!
1/3 done with this weekend's paper. Mike has noted that my powers of procrastination are increasing as I get the closer to the end of my degree....
*whew* finished my work out - trying to be good despite continued dizziness problems. I've lost 29 pounds since I started working with my endocrinologist on metformin, etc. in August, and she has asked me to try to lose another 10 before my April appointment. should be do-able. but til then, shower & HW time.....
I have to share a cute story from a few days ago.... Mike's negotiating skills.

Mike and I are planning to spend the Super Bowl at home, so he can agonize over the Broncos in peace. One evening this week, over a glass of wine, he decided to put in a request for the Super Bowl menu. "ok," I said. He then proceeded to explain that he would like mini pizzas shaped like football helmets where the toppings are arranged into a Broncos logo. He provided some details on how one might accomplish this. If looks could kill... I told him "If that's what you're looking for, you married the wrong girl." He said well, in lieu of that, he'd like a can of easy cheese to go with the Ritz he has in the cabinet. I knew I'd been had. He laughed - "See how I did that? Now you're totally willing to buy me easy cheese!"
*fingers crossed* I had my follow-up endocrinologist appointment today, and I am now the proud owner of a bottle of thyroxin. After 18 years of hearing how I really seem to have a thyroid problem, I finally get to try a low dose prescription to see if it helps.
snow! ....but the cute white fluffy kind. not the craziness that hit the east coast. It's very pretty, but it also means I'd better start my commute early if I want to get to work today.
had a lovely dinner with my hubby at New Peach Garden, but did not like my fortune cookie. It said I was going to embark on a bold and dashing adventure. I told Mike that I know I sometimes complain about spending so much time writing word docs, but I wasn't looking to tip the pendulum all the way in the other direction. Apparently, the universe isn't giving me a vote re finding a middle ground. :) ...assuming fortune cookies tell the truth. Why would the cookie lie to me?
Mike and Ryan's textbook is off and running for the semester - - Mike brought home an unbound copy for us. He even included a form in the back for students to report any errors or confusing sections. It looks great! It is called "Materials Kinectics Fundamentals"
bwah! If you're tired of vents about stupid classmates, skip this post.

So, the assignment is "1.Based on analysis of your readings on benefit corporations and L3Cs, in no more than 200 words take a position on whether or not benefit corporations and L3Cs make it easier for business to profit by doing good. "

.... not only does my classmate's post for this start with "That depends" (without even restating the question), but he also used a direct quote from Wikipedia to take up half of the required length.

My only question is do I not dignify it with a response or do I quietly tear him to pieces? My description of how I must've gotten Yoda in that personality quiz was "revenge is a dish best served with cold precision".... I think I will tear it to pieces tomorrow.
So long, Week #2 of 8. Just 6 more weeks until I am free of MBA homework.
There's a whole lot of sleepy in our house this morning, and I think it's catching up to me. Mike and Chloe were up, but have since gone back to bed. I am halfway through my paper that's due tomorrow night, but totally stalled at the point where I have to write a mission statement for my fake bed & breakfast. so close....must press on
graduation application filed. 7 weeks to go til party time!
was really nice to share a glass of hard cider with my hubby during the game... sadly, that glass ended with an end-zone interception. me thinks 'tis time to get back to my homework (cause yes, we are very superstitious here when it comes to the Broncos!)
just created a twitter account for my MBA class homework. thus far, twitter gets a big meh - maybe I'll warm up to it.
went to see the Hobbit with Mike last night in Imax 3D... the movie looked great, the plot was meh. *sigh* I guess this is a franchise that has just about run its course.
woke up this morning with Type O' Negative's version of "Summer Breeze" running through my head. Hard to say what that means mood wise....I guess we'll find out!
Mike is off to the Nuggets game (go Nuggets!) and I am sitting down with a cup of caffeine...I mean, tea... to do some homework. oh, and as for all my kvetching about the end of the world as we know it - I finished my discussion post last night, and I feel fine. ;)
what would victory be without trials? darn nice. (I'm not someone who gains joy from overcoming obstacles. *grin*) Class #14 of 14 seems to be the class of social media. I am supposed to use 2 references from linkedin or twitter in this week's discussion post and have linked in and twitter following assignments each week. Since when does crap on the web count as a legitimate reference for a class? *sigh* this too, shall pass. starting the 8 week countdown.....
desperately trying to find the motivation to get back into reading MBA stuff... mmm, articles on inter-organizational collaboration.
While converting videos, I was trolling the web to see how mksanders.com shows up on google lately - found some site that said it was worth $805 based upon web traffic. seemed random.
snow! We're getting a pretty layer of fluffy snow this morning. Chloe is besides herself because it brought out all the hungry critters. Mike is busy working on his textbook. and I am trying to figure out what I want to do with myself today.
what a pleasant surprise! I logged in for my final course today to find that they have changed the nature of the capstone class - it no longer seems to be a term-long group project. *whew* This week, I need to do a discussion post, read 4 articles, and make a power point presentation. I think I can handle that - even post vacation!

and then the huntress became the hunted.

I came home from work early today because I was tired of coughing and coughing in cubeville. After lunch and some failed attempts to stop coughing, I decided to take Chloe outside. We had a very nice walk around the yard, and then she picked up on a snake. She chased him across the rocks and he went through the fence. What she didn't see (but I did) was that our neighbors' dog, Zeke, was sitting on his patio watching. She stuck her head through the fence. "Chloe! No." She looked at me, looked at the snake, and stuck her front paw and should through the fence. I yelled at her again and jumped up on the wall to chase her back. At this point, Zeke comes charging the fence, Chloe finally sees him, and she retreats to a safe distance. Then, Zeke found the snake and it came blazing through back onto our side of the fence.... but Chloe the Snake Hunter had lost interest. Our neighbor, Maggie, came out of the house laughing. "Did I hear that right? Did she really consider coming over here?" I said yes - she was hunting a snake.

and then the huntress became the hunted.

taking a day of LWOP so I could go chat with a dr about my lung CT scans (everything is fine - he says the lymph nodules are a common side effect of autoimmune arthritis) .... but the poor dude was TERRIFIED of me. Sure, I wasn't happy about having been there almost an hour and a half before I got to talk to him and less happy that they had not yet found the old CT scans I had requested be sent to their office. I got home and took a picture to see if I was sending off terrifying vibes....maybe so. Sorry, Dr.Tate.
